New airport expected to bring fortune for Sikkim

The hill state of Sikkim has got its first airport only recently and it is expected to be fully operational by October first week. The state and the residents are expecting that the new airport will bring fortune for the state in the form of tourism and agricultural development. SpiceJet announces direct flights from Guwahati to Patna, Hyderabad

SpiceJet announced the launch of direct flights from Guwahati to Patna, Hyderabad and Pakyong in Sikkim. The daily non-stop flight services on the Guwahati-Patna-Guwahati route and Guwahati-Hyderabad-Guwahati route would commence on October 10. The Guwahati-Pakyong-Guwahati flight service would commence operations from October 16. New road between Sikkim and Nepal to promote tourism and trade

The road coming up is at an altitude of about 10,500 feet from sea level. This will be the first road link between Sikkim and Nepal which share almost 100 Km long common border. Nepal already has a road connecting Chiwa Bhanjyang, which is an antiquated village and a popular tourist place. North-East tourism expected to boost by 12 per cent

The new, improved infrastructure facilities and air connectivity to the North-East have made it a tourist hotspot among travellers, and is expected to grow by 10-12 per cent in 2019. “The bookings for North-east have gone up by 18 per cent as compared to the same period (April-June) last year. Tourism in the North-east region is expected to grow by at least 10-12 per cent even in the next year,” Cox & King’s Head, Relationships, Karan Anand told PTI. The Sikkim government and tourism stakeholders of Himalayan state has wholeheartedly welcomed the Union tourism ministry’s proposal to lift the restrictions on foreign tourists who loves to travel to Arunachal Pradesh and parts of Sikkim. Union Tourism Minister KJ Alphons and his ministry proposed the plan when they had a meeting with senior Union home and defence ministry officers last week. Ministry seeks to ease Sikkim, Arunachal travel for foreigners

Till now tourists need to apply for travel documents such as the protected area permit (PAP) and the restricted area permit (RAP) before visiting Arunachal Pradesh and parts of Sikkim. And, now, as part of its plans to attract more tourists, the government is proposing to remove restrictions for foreigners who want to travel to these destinations. Ministry proposes special tourism package for North East

The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) has asked the Finance Ministry to allot funds and special packages for the development of tourism in North Eastern states. The proposal for funds and package was confirmed by Department of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER)  Minister Jitendra Singh on Friday after a meeting with Union Tourism Minister Alphons Kannamthanam. Access to forbidden areas likely for foreign tourists except from Pak, China

Foreign tourists, except those from Pakistan and China, may soon be allowed to visit some of the most pristine locations of the country, kept out of bound so far for them without a special permit.
