Biodegradable yoga mat developed by 6 young girls from Assam

A biodegradable and compostable yoga mat developed from water hyacinth by six young girls from the fishing community in Assam could turn this water plant from a nuisance to wealth. The girls belong to the fishing community living in the fringe of the Deepor Beel, a permanent freshwater lake in the southwest of Guwahati city, recognized as a Ramsar Site (a wetland of international importance) and a bird wildlife sanctuary. Assam Tourism launches ‘Guwahati Heritage Walk’ to promote culture and heritage

World’s largest river island, Majuli island in Assam In a bid to promote the heritage, history, and culture of Guwahati city, Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) has launched Guwahati Heritage Walk, to showcase the heritage sites of the city to the domestic and foreign tourists through the morning commute. Jayanta Malla Baruah, Chairman, Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC), launched the tour recently in the presence of tour operators and association members. Canada travel advisory warns citizens not to travel to India

The Government of Canada has issued travel advisory warning its citizens not to travel to India. “Exercise a high degree of caution in India due to a continuing threat of terrorist attacks throughout the country at all times,” it said. The advisory also tells to avoid non-essential travel to parts of north eastern India, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland, due to conflict. It also advises to avoid all travel to Western border with Bangladesh and Jammu and Kashmi, due to sporadic terrorist activity and violent demonstrations. India’s longest bridge is coming up over river Brahmaputra

IIE organizes adventure tourism fest in Assam

Water aerodromes to come up in five Indian states

With an aim to promote operation of sea planes in the country, the central government has given in-principle approval for construction of ‘water aerodromes’, in five states. The first such aerodromes are set to come up in Odisha, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Assam. Chilka Lake in Odisha and Sabarmati river front and Sardar Sarovar Dam in Gujarat have been identified by the government to implement the first phase of the project. “In-principle approval has been given for the construction of water aerodromes in various states across the country. Centre sanctions Rs 190 crores for Tripura and Assam

With an aim to enable the state to build suitable infrastructure across the state, the Union ministry has sanctioned Rs 90 crores to Tripura. As Part of the ‘Prasad’ scheme, which aims at developing the religious sites, another Rs 10 crores has also been allotted. The funds will be utilized for the development of temples, mosques and monasteries. The tourism industry in Tripura has been remaining unexplored or underutilized until the new government came into reign. Ministry proposes special tourism package for North East

The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) has asked the Finance Ministry to allot funds and special packages for the development of tourism in North Eastern states. The proposal for funds and package was confirmed by Department of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER)  Minister Jitendra Singh on Friday after a meeting with Union Tourism Minister Alphons Kannamthanam. As per reports, the ministers discussed about recognizing new projects stressing the development of tourism in Northeastern states. New integrated terminal bldg in Guwahati

The Chief Minister of Assam Sarbanand Sonwal P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Ashok Gajapathi inaugurated the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Integrated Terminal Building at LGBI airport in Guwahati. “Guwahati, our jewel of pride in the North-East, is all set to emerge as an aviation hub, augmenting the much needed capacity in the region,” said Ashok Gajapathi after the foundation stone laying ceremony. The terminal consists of the departure lobby, waiting lounge, check-in counters and boarding lobby. “This new terminal building will further boost regional and South East Asian connectivity,” said Sarbanand.
