Research from UNWTO says International Travel will revive only by last quarter of 2021

Not so good news for the international tourism scenario. The recent survey research conducted by UNWTO points out that the revival of International Tourism will not be possible until the last quarter of 2021 and could even get stretched to 2022. Idukki hotels need to screen guests for virus, says district collector

The Idukki district collector has said that resorts and hotels in Idukki should allow rooms to guests, only after ensuring that they have tested negative for corona virus. Earlier the district administration had issued a circular restricting the bookings in the district. But in the light of Idukki not having any confirmed cases of the dreaded virus, the circular has been modified. The hotels and resorts now have to only ensure that they screen the guests coming from corona impacted travel spots, and ensure they have not come in contact with the virus. Corona: Thailand suspends visa on arrival facility

Indians will not be able to avail the visa-on-arrival facility when visiting Thailand, for the time being. Thailand on Wednesday canceled the grant of visa-on-arrival for 18 countries including India and visa exemption for three others to contain the spread of the corona virus, the country’s interior minister said. Previously, nationals of 18 countries or territories could use their passports or travel documents to apply for Visa on Arrival (VoA) at Thai immigration checkpoints. Yellow fever vaccinations not required to enter Singapore

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has clarified that the Singapore Ministry of Health has not issued any health advisory that requires travelers from India to have yellow fever vaccinations. STB in a press note on Wednesday said that a circular dated February 27, purportedly from Air India, has been making the rounds stating “yellow fever vaccination requirement for travelers to Singapore”. The circular further claims that it is a directive from the Singapore Ministry of Health. The Government of Canada has issued travel advisories for India and Pakistan due to the continuing threat of terrorist attacks throughout the country at all times. “Travellers should exercise a high degree of caution in India due to a continuing threat of terrorist attacks throughout the country at all times,” reads the Indian advisory. The advisory also warns to avoid all non-essential travel to parts of Northeastern India, and to avoid all travel to areas near the western border with Bangladesh and Jammu and Kashmir. The Oman Embassy in Delhi has issued an advisory for its citizens who plan to travel to India in the coming days due to the developments unfolding in Jammu and Kashmir. Canada travel advisory warns citizens not to travel to India

The Government of Canada has issued travel advisory warning its citizens not to travel to India. “Exercise a high degree of caution in India due to a continuing threat of terrorist attacks throughout the country at all times,” it said. The advisory also tells to avoid non-essential travel to parts of north eastern India, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland, due to conflict. It also advises to avoid all travel to Western border with Bangladesh and Jammu and Kashmi, due to sporadic terrorist activity and violent demonstrations. China warns citizens about travelling to Canada

China has issued a travel advisory to its citizens, urging them to “fully assess the risks of travel” to Canada after a Chinese executive was arrested in the North American country. China’s Foreign Ministry said Canada recently “arbitrarily detained” a Chinese national, a reference to Chinese executive Meng Wanzhou. Meng, the chief financial officer at Huawei, a global telecommunications conglomerate, was arrested on December 1 at the request of the United States. 5.8 magnitude quake hits Indonesia’s West Papua

A magnitude 5.8 earthquake hit the eastern Indonesian province of West Papua today, causing nervous residents to panic about a week after a tsunami killed hundreds further west in the archipelago. Though the US Geological Survey gave a 5.8 magnitude, Indonesian authorities measured the quake with a magnitude of 6.1 and said it was “felt quite strongly for several seconds”. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage. Cyclone Gaja alert sounded in Tamil Nadu, Andhra and Puducherry

Travellers in any of the areas of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry, please stay safe as the authorities have issued a cyclone alert in the regions. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cyclone red alert for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh. Cyclone Titli had earlier made landfall on October 11 and left 62 people dead in Odisha. Tremors were felt in Delhi and the National Capital Region today morning after mild earthquake in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.
