China claims spot as No: 1 international tourism source market

Despite the pandemic, recent research says that China will still be the number one source market for international tourism. According to quantitative research of China Outbound Tourism Research Institute, China will reclaim its top position in 2020 with 18 million Chinese international trips, most of which however happened in January, representing about 10% of the number for 2019. Travelers from mainland China can be expected to be responsible for more than a million border crossings, with Macao as the main destination. IndiGo to launch flights to China, Myanmar, Saudi and Vietnam

India’s budget carrier IndiGo is planning services to China, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Myanmar among other countries as part of its efforts to expand its international network. The carrier also has plans to start services to Turkey and Commonwealth of Independent States countries. IndiGo also plans to add frequencies in existing routes. IndiGo has also announced plans to fly from Pune to Male in Maldives soon, which is expected to start the service by the end of March. China’s winter tourism attracts nearly 200 mln tourists

Around 197 million people visited China to take part in winter tourism between November 2017 and March 2018, says an annual report released by the China Tourism Academy. The cost associated with winter tourism has been decreasing while the public shows increasing interest in participating, said Han Yuanjun, editor-in-chief of the report. Winter tourism is conducive to rural vitalization and local economic transformation, the report said. Emirates sign codeshare deal with China South Airlines

Emirates and China Southern Airlines have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to progress a comprehensive reciprocal codeshare agreement, which is set to open up new destinations for passengers travelling between China and the Middle East and Africa. The partnership with the Guangzhou-based carrier also allows Emirates’ passengers to enjoy seamless connectivity on domestic flights within China, adding eight new destinations to its global network. China warns citizens about travelling to Canada

China has issued a travel advisory to its citizens, urging them to “fully assess the risks of travel” to Canada after a Chinese executive was arrested in the North American country. China’s Foreign Ministry said Canada recently “arbitrarily detained” a Chinese national, a reference to Chinese executive Meng Wanzhou. Meng, the chief financial officer at Huawei, a global telecommunications conglomerate, was arrested on December 1 at the request of the United States. Despite its recent economic slowdown, air travel demand in China remains high and the country is expected to become the world’s largest air travel market by 2020, according to Beroe Inc., a procurement intelligence firm. China to build its first undersea tunnel for high-speed trains

China will build its first undersea tunnel for high-speed trains, connecting two cities in eastern province of Zhejiang which will substantially cut the travel time from 90 to 30 minutes, according to a media report. The project with 70.92 km in total length, with an undersea tunnel section of 16.2 km, will connect the city of Ningbo with the island city of Zhoushan in east Zhejiang, state-run Xinhua news agency reported. China to ban polluting tourist vehicles near Mt Everest

As part of its efforts to reduce pollution in the area, China has announced its plan to ban polluting tourist vehicles at the Mount Everest base camp in Tibet from next year onwards. Macau and Hong Kong have the highest international tourist spending: WTTC Report

The special administrative regions of Macau and Hong Kong experience the highest international visitor spending, according to highlights of a report by the World Travel & Tourism Council’s (WTTC) annual City Travel & Tourism Impact Report on Monday. The report noted that Macau has the highest foreign tourists spending making up 97.3 per cent of tourism gross domestic product (GDP) at USD 35.6 billion. China to open world’s longest sea bridge for traffic

China to open the world’s longest sea bridge for public on 23rd October 2018. The 55 km long bridge linking Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macao took six years of preparations and eight years for construction. Construction of the bridge began on 15 December 2009 and is expected to reduce travel time from Hong Kong to mainland China from three hours to 30 minutes.
