Hopes rise for Singapore-Malaysia cross border travel

For people stuck on either side of the Causeway, the possible resumption of cross-border travel between Singapore and Malaysia is cause for optimism, says a Straits Times report. The authorities of both countries agreed last week to restart cross-border travel for essential business and official travellers and long-term pass holders through two schemes: the reciprocal green lane and the periodic commuting arrangement. Though more details will be announced before these new travel schemes take effect on August 10, travellers will have to get swabbed for Covid-19 and submit their itineraries to the relevant authorities, the report says. Singapore to resume tourism businesses in phased manner from July 1

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said on Sunday that tourism businesses in Singapore will be permitted to resume operations in stages from July 1, starting with 13 attractions. STB will also allow domestic tour operators to begin submitting their applications to resume operations. This is part of the resumption of activities in Phase 2 after the circuit breaker, STB said. Singapore and China to launch ‘fast lane’ official travel arrangement

Singapore and China will launch a “fast lane” arrangement early next month to help encourage essential travel. The travel will be essentially for business and official purposes, as both countries emerge from the coronavirus pandemic with control measures in place. The arrangement would first apply to Singapore and six provinces or municipalities directly under the Chinese central government – Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing, Guangdong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, said Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in a statement. Yellow fever vaccinations not required to enter Singapore

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has clarified that the Singapore Ministry of Health has not issued any health advisory that requires travelers from India to have yellow fever vaccinations. STB in a press note on Wednesday said that a circular dated February 27, purportedly from Air India, has been making the rounds stating “yellow fever vaccination requirement for travelers to Singapore”. Singapore eyes 14% growth in tourist arrivals from India

Singapore is expecting 14 per cent growth in tourist footfalls from India this year compared to 2017, and plans to tap the growing young travellers. “Last year was a record year where we received 1.27 million Indians travellers. This year, from January till September we have already received 1.08 million Indians. Singapore Tourism records drop in tourist spending in Q2

Despite some 4.6 million visitor arrivals, Singapore tourism sector recorded a drop in overall spending in the second quarter of the year by 1.7 per cent to USD 6.6 billion, compared with the same period last year. Tourist arrivals up by 7.1% in Singapore

As per the recent statistics by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), tourist arrivals for the first quarter of the current year were up by 7.1 per cent compared with the same period last year.
