Recognizing the potential of Cruise Tourism, Ministry of Tourism has identified Cruise Tourism as one of the Niche Tourism Products. Development and promotion of tourist destinations and products, including cruise tourism, is primarily the responsibility of the respective State Government/Union Territory (UT) Administration. However, Ministry of Tourism provides Central Financial Assistance (CFA) to the Central Government Agencies for development of tourism, including Cruise Tourism and Cruising along rivers on receipt of complete proposals under the Scheme of ‘Assistance to Central Agencies for Tourism Infrastructure Development’. Italy to resume cruise ship operations from August 15

In its latest series of government decrees issued under Italy’s coronavirus state of emergency, a stimulus package worth 25 billion euros has been included, even as face masks, social distancing and travel restrictions remain in place. Cruise ships will return from August 15, according to a report by The Local.it. The stimulus package looks to extend Italy’s employee furlough scheme and allows taxpayers to defer payments, among other measures. Cruise season begins as first luxury vessel arrives in Kochi

The arrival of first cruise liner AIDAvita marked the beginning of the cruise season in Kerala on November 5. The ship with 1,181 tourists and 406 crew members on board was docked at BTP berth, Kochi Port, around 8 am. The luxury liner began its journey from Dubai to Singapore on October 30. Before reaching Kochi, it was docked at Muscat, Goa and Mangaluru. It left for Male in the evening before sailing to Colombo, Langkawi and Kuala Lumpur to reach Singapore on November 16. Union ministry may consider waiver of GST for cruise tourism

The Union Ministry may consider reduction or waiver of GST (Goods and Service Tax) for cruise tourism service. It was announced by the Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport, Shipping and Highways. He was speaking at the first international conclave for global cruise tourism in India held on 30th August 2018. “The matter may be discussed in the coming GST financial meeting presided by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley,” said the minister. India’s five major ports are ready for cruise tourism

Pon Radhakrishnan, Minister of state for shipping and finance stated that five major ports have developed to facilitate cruise tourism. “Chennai  in Tamilnadu, Mormugao in Goa, New Mangalore in Karnataka, Cochin in Kerala and Mumbai in Maharashtra are developed with dedicated cruise terminals and other related infrastructure for docking of cruise vessels and embarking and disembarking of cruise passengers,” said the minister while replying to a question in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. India targets 5 million foreign cruise tourists by 2040

More than 1.6 lakh people visited India for cruise tourism in 2017-2018, Tourism Minister K J Alphons. The Ministry of Tourism is working towards attracting five million cruise tourists to India by 2040, he said. A Task Force on Cruise Tourism has been formed jointly by the Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Shipping with representatives of all major ports and stakeholders for coordinated efforts to create an enabling ecosystem for the development of Cruise Tourism in India.
