India in talks with the US, Canada, Gulf countries to establish travel bubbles

India is in talks with the US, Canada and some countries in Europe and West Asia on establishing  bilateral international flight bubbles, said Arvind Singh, Chairman, Airports Authority of India (AAI), on Thursday. The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MOCA) had on June 23 said India is considering establishing “individual bilateral bubbles” with the US, the UK, Germany and France. Promote offbeat domestic destinations: Prahlad Singh Patel

To boost domestic tourism in India, safety and hygiene at travel destinations will be important,  tourism minister Prahlad Singh Patel has said. Tourists want to ensure that the places where he is staying, eating and travelling are safe and sanitized, he said. Tourism ministry opens portal to help stranded foreigners

The Ministry of Tourism has set up a portal to disseminate information regarding the services that can be availed by stranded foreign tourists. The portal called ‘Stranded in India’, hosted on the Incredible India website, has been set up to extend support to all foreigners who are stuck in India due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The portal will help tourists get information of state tourism departments and regional offices of the Ministry of Tourism, to help them stay safe and healthy. Tourism ministry tells tour operators to avoid movement of tourist groups

The Ministry of Tourism has directed the tour operators to avoid movement of tourist groups within the country, in a bid to control the spread of the corona virus. “Your support will go a long way in strengthening the hands of the government of India in its efforts to overcome the situation,” said Rupinder Brar, the additional director general of the Ministry of Tourism. As a precautionary measure, all visas issued to nationals of all countries have been suspended till April 15 and Indian nationals have been strongly advised to avoid all non-essential travel. India pavilion opens at WTM London with 30 exhibitors

Incredible India is participating at the largest international exhibitors of the travel and tourism industry, World Travel Market London, to showcase India as a preferred destination for tourism. This year, the India pavilion focuses on targeting internal experiences of travellers by showcasing not only India’s culture and heritage but also niche tourism products such as cuisine, wellness, yoga, wildlife and luxury. Over 30 exhibitors comprising state governments, tour operators, hoteliers, wellness centres and other stakeholders are participating in the event at the India pavilion. India ranks 34th on world travel, tourism competitiveness index: World Economic Forum

Moving up six places up, India now ranks 34th position on world travel and tourism competitiveness index. The growth has been driven by the rich natural and cultural resources, alongside strong price competitiveness. “India, which accounts for the majority of South Asia’s T&T (travel and tourism) GDP, remains the sub-region’s most competitive T&T economy, moving up six places to rank 34th globally. 137 Indian peaks opened to foreigners for mountaineering and trekking

The Government has opened 137 mountain peaks for foreigners desirous of obtaining Mountaineering Visa (‘MX’) for mountaineering and trekking. These peaks are located in the States of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Sikkim. While the highest number of 51 peaks have been opened to foreigners in Uttarakhand, 15 peaks of Jammu and Kashmir have also been included in the list. During India’s 73rd Independence Day today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to travel to at least 15 tourist destinations within India by 2022. Taking a cue from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s jungle adventure aired on Discovery channel on August 12, the Tourism Ministry has decided to make wildlife its theme for the Incredible India campaign for the next two months. The show, Man vs Wild, shot in Jim Corbett National park, was premiered on August 12 and was showcased in more than 180 countries across the world on Discovery network channels. MoT allots over Rs 2,000 crore for promoting India this fiscal

Ministry of Tourism, Government of India spent Rs 1687.06 crore and Rs 1986.04 crore during the years 2017-18 and 2018-19 respectively under its plan scheme on tourism sector. The Budget Estimate under the plan scheme for the sector during the financial year 2019-20 is Rs 2075.12 crore, informed Minister of State (I/C) for Culture & Tourism, Prahlad Singh Patel.
