Canada travel advisory warns citizens not to travel to India

The Government of Canada has issued travel advisory warning its citizens not to travel to India. “Exercise a high degree of caution in India due to a continuing threat of terrorist attacks throughout the country at all times,” it said. The advisory also tells to avoid non-essential travel to parts of north eastern India, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland, due to conflict. It also advises to avoid all travel to Western border with Bangladesh and Jammu and Kashmi, due to sporadic terrorist activity and violent demonstrations. Tripura to host 7th International Tourism Mart

Ujjayanda Palace, Agartala Tripura will host the 7th International Tourism Mart from 22nd November 2018 at Agartala. The three day event, which aims at propagate tourism potentials of the northeast states, will have tour operator delegates from 18 countries. Ministry to construct textile tourism complex in Meghalaya

The Textile Ministry said it will release Rs 7.8 crore for the construction of textile tourism complex in Nangpoh, Meghalaya Union. Minister of State for Textiles, Ajay Tamta has said that the Ministry will release Rs 7.8 crore for the construction of a textile tourism complex in Nongpoh, Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya. Meghalaya to have its first aqua park

Meghalaya to copy Kerala to develop Ayush model

Meghalaya, the northeast state of India, is planning to explore the potential of Ayush treatment in the state to promote tourism. It was informed by the Health and Family Welfare Minister Alexander Laloo Hek, after his recent visit to Kerala, where he has discussed with the Kerala government the prospects of Ayush in promotion of tourism, “Meghalaya government would like to take up Ayush treatment in a big way like Kerala and the idea is to attract more tourists to the state,” said Hek. Meghalaya optimistic of Union Ministry’s tourism promotion schemes

As per the Union Ministry’s tourism development programms – ‘Swedesh Darshan’ and ‘PRASAD’, the Meghalaya State Tourism Department has submitted new proposals to the Center to be considered for approval. Under the Swedesh Darshan Scheme, 13 thematic circuits have been identified for development. The circuits are Northeast India circuit, Buddhist, Himalayan, Coastal, Krishna, Desert, Tribal, Eco, Wildlife, Rural, Spiritual, Ramayana and Heritage circuits. The ‘PRASAD’ scheme (National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive), focuses on development and beautification of the identified pilgrimage destinations. Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) has organized a training programme on homestay tourism on Wednesday, 18th July 2018, for the women in Meghalaya with the supportof the National Commission for Woman (NCW) “The purpose of the programme was to promote women entrepreneurship in home-stay tourism,” said Theilin Phanbuh, the Chairperson of MSCW. “Tourism is one sector that offers immense potential, especially in Meghalaya with its natural scenic beauty,” she added. North-East tourism expected to boost by 12 per cent

The new, improved infrastructure facilities and air connectivity to the North-East have made it a tourist hotspot among travellers, and is expected to grow by 10-12 per cent in 2019. “The bookings for North-east have gone up by 18 per cent as compared to the same period (April-June) last year. Tourism in the North-east region is expected to grow by at least 10-12 per cent even in the next year,” Cox & King’s Head, Relationships, Karan Anand told PTI. However, in an exciting way to promote a route as a destination for tourists, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma embarked on a 9km trek on Tuesday from Chandigre village in West Garo Hills to Daribokgre village on the foothills of Nokrek in East Garo Hills.
