Manipur to implement a Tourism Policy

The government is taking the necessary steps to implement a Tourism Policy for the state for promotion and development of tourism, said  Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh. He was replying to a question in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday. The chief minister also informed of that infrastructure development projects funded by the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of DoNER (Development of North Eastern Region) and NEC (North Eastern Council) is under process as well. Canada travel advisory warns citizens not to travel to India

The Government of Canada has issued travel advisory warning its citizens not to travel to India. “Exercise a high degree of caution in India due to a continuing threat of terrorist attacks throughout the country at all times,” it said. The advisory also tells to avoid non-essential travel to parts of north eastern India, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland, due to conflict. It also advises to avoid all travel to Western border with Bangladesh and Jammu and Kashmi, due to sporadic terrorist activity and violent demonstrations. K J Alphons assures monetary aid to Manipur for tourism projects

Union Minister of State for Tourism (Independent charge) K J Alphons has assured that the Central Government will provide more monetary assistance to Manipur if the state comes up with interesting projects. “Manipur is ideal for grooming handlooms and textiles industry due to the presence of ample number of weavers who have thorough knowledge of the trade,” the minister said. “Tourism, handlooms and textiles and handicrafts are the sectors that the state preferably needs to focus for economic boost,” he opined while speaking as guest of honor at the launching programme of “Samveg, the momentum” which was held in celebrating the role ... Earthquake in Manipur

An earthquake ranging over 3.7 magnitude was measured in the Richter scale at Churachandpur region in Manipur. The event happened around 7.01 am with no reported causalities. On January 2016, a 6.7 magnitude earthquake at Manipur killing 11 people, along with injuring 200 people, that comprises citizens from the neighbouring country of Bangladesh. Manipur has a population of over 250,000 people, with rich culture and heritage.
