Tourism sector has created around 14 million jobs in the country – KJ Alphons

The Tourism sector of India has created nearly 14 million jobs in the country, employing all sections of the society, in the last four years, said KJ Alphons, Union Tourism Minister. Tourism ministry target 5 million visitors to the Statue of Unity by next year

National Tourism Advisory Council  will meet on 21st – 22nd February 2019 at the site of the newly made Statue of Unity, Kevadiya in Gujarat. The objective of the brainstorming would be how to achieve a target of 5 million visitors to the Statue of Unity by next year. The world’s tallest statue of the iconic leader Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel is 182 meter tall. K J Alphons, Union Tourism Minister, will chair the meeting. Central Government sanctions Rs 361.97 crores for five Buddhist Circuit projects

The central government has sanctioned Rs 361.97 crore for five projects Buddhist Circuit programme of the Uninon Ministry, which connects the heritage sites with significance of Buddhism across the country. It was informed by the Union Tourism Minister, KJ Alphons in the Lok Sabha. The Ministry of Tourism has identified Buddhist Circuit as one of the fifteen thematic circuits for development under Swadesh Darshan Scheme. The Buddhist Circuit projects are in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh, connecting the Buddhist centers in each states. Tourism contributes 10 per cent of India’s GDP

Tourism has been playing a vital role in the economic development of India; the contribution of the tourism sector to the GDP is around 10 per cent in 2018 as per recent reports of ‘Statista’. The venue of Statue of Unity in Gujarat’s Narmada district is becoming a favoured tourist destination of the state, within two months after it’s unveiling by PM Narendra Modi. Kozhikode airport regains status as embarkation point for Hajj

Karipur Airport has been reinstated as an embarkation point for Hajj, the annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, 2019. It was informed by Alphons KJ, Union Minister of State for Tourism. Earlier, the embarkation point was changed from Kozhikode to Cochin airport following the runway enhancement works in Kozhikode. Kanyakumari to have development works worth 32 crores
