Master plan for Kovalam on cards

The Kerala Tourism department is preparing a master plan for the comprehensive development of Kovalam. The tourism minister, Kadakampally Surendran has informed that necessary infrastructure facilities will be set up at Kovalam before the next tourism season. The new facilities include toilets, parking facility, waste management system, safety measures and street lighting at a cost of Rs 24 lakh. The department has already spent for lighting facilities. Rs 70 lakh was sanctioned for the renovation of the footpath. Jatayu Earth Center’s phase II will be operational on Aug 17

The second phase of Jatayu Earth Center project will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on 17th August 2017, informed Tourism Minister Kadakampalli Surendran. The project, located at Chadayamangalam in Kollam, includes the sculpture of the great mythical bird Jatayu mentioned in the Hindu epic Ramayana, cable car – fully manufactured in Switzerland, adventure park and helicopter local flying service. Kerala is going to be the first 100 per cent accessible friendly tourism destination in the world. The concept of differently-abled friendly tourism will be materialized through the new project – Barrier Free Kerala Tourism, which kick started on 27th June 2017. New Yoga Institute in Kasargod

The state government has expedited the steps to envisage Kerala as the Yoga Capital of India. The ministry has decided to allot fifteen acres of land in Karinthalam village of Kasargod as lease to construct Yoga and Naturopathy Post-graduate Institute. The proposed institute will have facility to accommodate 100 patients. Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy will oversee the construction.

Sahin Tendulkar to be Chief Guest in Nehru Trophy Boat Race 2018

Kerala’s backwaters and major rivers are all set for yet another season of traditional boat race – ‘vallam kali’. This year, the government is planning to commence a new concept in boat race - ‘Kerala Boat League’, following the pattern of IPL. “The first nine snake boats (chundan vallam), those display competence in the Nehru Trophy Boat Race will be participating in the KBL,”said the Finance Minister Dr. T M Thomas Issac. He was talking in the General Body Meeting prior to the 66th ‘Nehru Trophy Vallam Kali’.

KTDC to have multifaceted development programs

  In order to overcome the increasing competition from the private sector, KTDC has decided to have a face-lift. Last year the profit of KTDC disclosed a decrease than the previous year. It has reduced from 5.82 to 3.52 crores. Closing of 29 out of 40 beer parlours, establishment of GST and maintenance works in some of the KTDC owned buildings were the reasons for the decline in the profit, as explained by the authorities. Kerala bets big on accessible tourism

Kerala Tourism, prominent for its innovative ideas for the development of tourism, planning to launch yet another programme named ‘Barrier-free Kerala Tourism,’ which aims to convert the State into a 100 per cent-accessible friendly tourist destination by 2021.The project will be carried out by the Department of Tourism in cooperation with Responsible Tourism (RT) mission, Kerala Tourism Minister Kadakkampally Surendran will inaugurate the commencement of the work of the 'Barrier-Free Kerala Tourism' project on 27 June. An 'Accessible tourism' workshop will also be held the same day in which public-private players in the tourism sector are expected to participate.

Online directory of artisans, doyens getting ready

The Ernakulam District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) is planning to launch an exclusive initiative to collate data on skilled artisans, dancers and other artists by the end of June, under the Responsible Tourism (RT) Mission project. The project is aimed at promoting experimental tourism. The online directory will have details regarding artists, including their name, coordinators, bio-data and details of stage performances. The initiative is expected to help people from across the globe to access the state’s traditional art forms, handicraft products and artisans. Yoga Ambassadors Tour (YAT) 2018, a specialist familiarization trip for practicing Yoga, which commenced on 13th June, was a visual treat for tourists across the world. Kannur airport to be fully operational by September

The Minister for Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu has said that the Kannur airport will be provided with all possible help to make it fully operational by September this year. After meeting with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Prabhu has directed Chairman, Airport Authority of India and other officials from the Ministry to take all possible steps to make Kannur Airport as a point of call for foreign airlines.
