Indians love travelling over food and clothing: survey

According to a report published by Kayak survey, about 47 per cent of people aged 36-55 prefers spending on travelling. The survey further states as about 38 per cent of people are willing to spend money on travelling, rather than spending on food and shopping. The new survey report thus breaks all the popular belief as, not only youngsters but also middle-aged people are ambitious upon travelling. Abu Dhabi launches digital platform to boost cultural tourism

Abu Dhabi has launched a comprehensive new digital initiative which will act as a ‘one-stop’ reference for all cultural information regarding the destination.  The new initiative will allow users to gain instant access to every possible aspect of cultural life and heritage in the emirate. A website would act as a main hub for information, along with a mobile app (iOS and Android), social media presence as well as podcasts on Soundcloud and iTunes that feature weekly broadcasts of cultural topics and discussions with experts. IndiGo, GoAir to cancel 600 plus flights

IndiGo and GoAir are planning to cancel around 620 flights this month due to engine malfunction. The airlines will give passengers an option to choose an alternate flight or get a full refund. Of which 480 belongs to IndiGo will cancel 480; the rest are of GoAir. Earlier this week, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had grounded 11 Airbus A320 neo aircraft due to recurring malfunctions in their engines. Tourism players say cheers to the new liquor policy on bar time extension

The travel/tourism players in the state have welcomed the Cabinet decision to extend bar timing to one hour more exclusively for the tourism sector. The new cabinet decision has come as a boon to the sector which has been suffering at first with the liquor ban and then with the time cap on bars. A new liquor policy has been granted by the Cabinet Ministry with a revised timing for bars in the tourism sector. Sri Lanka to lift social media ban – minister

A week after blocking social media websites and apps to prevent the spread of communal violence, the Sri Lankan government is planning to lift the ban. The clash between Sinhalese Buddhists and Muslims in the central Kandy district, a popular tourist destination, was instigated by postings on Facebook threatening more attacks on Muslims. And, in view of this, the government declared a social media ban on March 7 for three days. But, Facebook and Whatsapp still remains blocked, indicating that the ban has been extended. Ten tourism sites to be developed into iconic destinations: K J Alphons

Colva Beach, Goa The Ministry of Tourism has identified ten prominent tourist sites for development into iconic tourist destinations in the country. The plan was announced during the Budget Announcements of 2018-19. The ministry has identified the sites based on the criteria of footfall, regional distribution, potential for development and ease of implementation. IndiGo cancels 47 flights

IndiGo has cancelled as many as 47 flights today after aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) grounded eight A320Neo planes of IndiGo with faulty Pratt & Whitney engines, along with three such aircraft of GoAir. IndiGo has cancelled 47 flights across its domestic network, the airline announced on its website. The flights that have been cancelled are from Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Patna, Srinagar, Bhubaneswar, Amritsar, Srinagar and Guwahati, among others. Tourism ministry introduces courses for guides

The duration of these two courses would be 420 hours and 330 hours, respectively and are open to youth in the age group of 18 to 28 years. Govt approves upgradation of 100 Adarsh monuments

Bhuddhist Remains in Salihundam The Union Minister of State (IC) for Culture and Minister of State for Environment, Forest & Climate Change Dr. Mahesh Sharma,  has announced the plans for upgradation of 100 Adarsh monuments of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Tourist amenities proposed to be upgraded include the parking, ticket counter, publication counter, cafeteria, toilet block, drinking water facilities, dustbins, benches, ramps (for the differently-abled), pathways, singages, etc. There are around 25 monuments under Phase I and 75 under Phase II. The Incredible India pavilion won the Best Exhibitor Award in the ITB Berlin 2018 convened at Berlin, Germany from 7th March to 10th March, 2018. Golconda fort celebrates 500 years

Built on a hilltop in the year 1143 Golconda Fort, located in the western part of Hyderabad city, is celebrating 500 glorious years. The history of Golconda Fort, undoubtedly one of most magnificent fortress complexes in India, goes back to early 13th century, when it was ruled by the Kakatiya’s followed by Qutub Shahi kings, who ruled the region in 16th and 17th century. Kerala govt issues advisory regarding trekking

In view of the tragic death of several trekkers during the forest fire in the Kolukkumalai hills of Theni district in Tamil Nadu, the Chief Secretary and the Chairman of State Disaster Management Authority has issued directions to stop trekking to hills and also to ensure that all fire lines are cleared. In view of the situation, the state has issued 6-point instructions with immediate effect. No movement of members of public inside forest areas, without permission will be allowed.
