Andhra Pradesh comes up with new plan to generate tourism revenues

Andhra Pradesh’s Tourism Minister Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao has said that in order to generate revenues for the sector, hotels across the State will be turned into paid quarantine centres. Addressing the media at the Secretariat, he said, “Tourism sector has suffered huge losses due to the COVID-19 crisis. So, we have decided to rent out low-occupancy tourism hotels as COVID quarantine centres.” The private hotels are already being used as quarantine centres. “Tourism hotels in Nellore, which were used as quarantine centres, have generated a revenue of Rs 2 crore in the past few months,” said Rao, adding that revenue of ... Andhra’s travel agents in dire straits

K Vijaya Mohan, President of the Tours and Travels Association of Andhra, has said that travel agents in the state have suffered a cumulative revenue loss of Rs 2,000 crore due to COVID-19 outbreak. At this rate, they would end up losing Rs 3,400 crore by the year-end, he said. In a letter written to Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, he said the government should give certain benefits to bail out the travel sector. Andhra Pradesh tourism loses Rs 60 crores during pandemic

Andhra Pradesh is preparing to develop its tourism sector after suffering heavy losses over the past six months. As part of this, tourism minister Avanthi Srinivas conducted an industry review recently and decided to set up five-star and seven-star hotels across seven tourist destinations in the state by forging public-private partnerships. He said the tourism department had lost a total of Rs 60 crores at the rate of Rs 10 crores per month due to the coronavirus pandemic. Andhra Pradesh to restart tourism from June 8, to promote temple tourism

Andhra Pradesh will restart its tourism operations from June 8. Hotels and restaurants will also reopen on the same date. Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao, the state’s minister for tourism and culture said, “All Covid-19 regulation norms will be taken care of in all hotels and restaurants.” While interacting with hotel industry representatives in Vijayawada, along with Endowments Minister Vellam Palli Srinivasa Rao, he said measures will be taken to open hotels and restaurants in towns with famous temples. Araku forests will soon be open for tourists at night

The Andhra Pradesh Tourism department is planning to introduce night vihar, a unique tourism package that will allow tourits to trek throught the wilderness of Visakhapatnam. On a pilot basis, the Araku forests will be made accessible for tourists at night. Representatives of the forest department and the tourism department will escort the tourists for night forest tours to ensure safety. A workshop on ‘Andhra Pradesh: Building a Global Tourism Destination’ was organized at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi by Centre for Strategy and Leadership (CSL) in association with Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA), Government of Andhra Pradesh. Andhra Pradesh to promote homestays in rural areas

Andhra Pradesh Tourism department plans to promote the concept of homestays in areas where commercial accommodation providers are less in the Krishna, Guntur and West Godavari districts. This is as part of the state’s second phase of rural tourism development plans. Relevant places from these districts will be selected and included in the tour packages. As part of revitalizing the handicrafts industry of the state, the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Authority is conducting state wide workshops for the artisans. Bhavani Islands to get a face-lift

Next time you visit Bhavani Island, there will be two new attractions, a Bird Arena and a Sea Lion Park. The project will be carried out by Ocean Aquarium, a Turkey-based company for a total project cost of Rs 9.99 crores. While announcing the project, Executive Engineer of Bhavanai Island Tourism Corporation G Uma Maheswara Rao claimed, “There have not been such shows in the country so far and this would make Bhavani Island a global tourism hub”.

Wildlife sanctuaries, eco-tourism spots to be plastic-free zones

The wildlife sanctuaries and eco-tourism spots in Andhra Pradesh are declared to plastic-free zones from today onwards.  The Forest Department has decided to take up different activities in response to the theme — Beat Plastic Pollution — given by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change. “We have decided to declare all wildlife sanctuaries and eco-tourism spots in the State as plastic-free zones. We are going to take up special campaign from Tuesday, including organising workshops, elocution contests for students and awareness programmes through films to trainee forest beat officers and other staff. Amaravati to get a Rs 115 crore tourism push

The Andhra Pradesh government is planning for a Rs 115 crore tourism development in Amaravati. Amaravati Development Corporation Ltd (ADCL) is asked to identify private firms for development of two family entertainment centres (FECs) for Rs 30 crore each, one sports and recreation club for Rs 25 crore, and a resort for Rs 30 crore. One of the family entertainment centres will come up in Sakhamuru village in two acres, and the other will be built in another two acres at Inavolu village.
