Kozhikode beach to be differently-abled friendly

The Calicut District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) is planning to build wheelchair-friendly entrances at major tourism destinations in the city. The first in the list will be the much famed Kozhikode beach. Exclusive parking slots for the vehicles driven by differently-abled will also be arranged as part of the project. The guarded parking spaces will be designed to ensure easy entry and exit. The disabled-friendly tourism spots is also expected to attract foreign tourists. Of the 1.3 crore domestic tourists and 10.7 lakh international tourists arriving in Kerala, 10 per cent belongs to the differently-abled category.

Kerala needs to penetrate North East Asian markets: UNWTO regional director

The future of Kerala Tourism depends on how successfully it can penetrate into the emerging source markets in North East Asia including China, Japan and Korea, said United Nations World Tourism Organisation’s (UNWTO) Asia/Pacific regional director Xu Jing. ATTOI to conduct Yoga Tour in Kerala

Three Kerala railway stations to be made world-class

The Centre has decided to develop three railway stations in Kerala as world-class railway stations, informed Union Minister of State for Tourism and Information Technology, Alphons KJ has said. The minister has announced the decision through his Facebook page today. Kottayam, Palakkad and Kozhikode railway stations will be raised to world-class standard, said the minister. The government has allocated Rs 20 crore  for this purpose. The decision was taken following the discussions held with Union Minister for Railways, Piyush Goyal.  

Kerala Blog Express reaches Kochi

International bloggers who are on a two-week long trip to Kerala reached Kochi today, as part of their visit to the renowned heritage site of Muziris. The first trip was to Kodungalloor to visit the Muziris Heritage project. The bloggers paid a visit to the famed synagogue at Chennamangalam, which is known for its traditional Kerala architecture that has put to play western construction technology. Tourism min to inaugurate ‘Jalayanam’ on March 24

Kadalundi Tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran will inaugurate ‘Jalayanam’ on March 24 at the Mampuzha Farm Tourism Centre in Olavanna, Calicut. ‘Jalayanam’ is aimed at developing farm and aquatic tourism initiatives and is expected to boost tourism in Kadalundi and Olavanna areas. Mampuzha, Chaliyar, Kaladundi rivers and its nearby areas are included in the project. The Mampuzha farm tourism project in Olavanna grama panchayat, a major component of the initiative, features an aqua green organic farm and a boat ride connecting the villages on the banks of Mampuzha. RT Mission to work on lake pollution by houseboats: Kadakampally

Vembanad lake in Alappuzha, famed for its ornately carved traditional houseboats, is the centerpiece of Kerala’s tourist trade. Pollution is turning the largest wetland ecosystem in south India, Vembanad lake in Alappuzha into a weed-clogged swamp, hampering the recovery of tourism in the region. Karipur airport runway will remain closed from March 25 onwards

The Karipur airport runway will remain closed for seven hours in the morning from March 25 onwards. The runway will remain closed as part of the construction work of Runway End Safety Area (RESA) From March 25 to April 15, the runway will be closed between 12.00 pm and 07.00 pm. As per the new summer schedule, IndiGo will start services to Hyderabad from March 25. Paramotoring Fest 2018 concludes on March 18

The Kannur District Tourist Promotion Council (DTPC), in collaboration with Vishwas Foundation, has organized a paramotoring Fest at the Muzhappilangad Drive-in beach. The event, kick started on March 4, will be concluded on March 18. The event, named ‘Fly High’ has been organised to woo youngsters into paramotoring. A motorised glider will carry the passenger to a height of 200 to 300 ft above the ground and will fly for 15 minutes. Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran urges Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to initiate talks with the Chief Ministers and Transport Ministers of neighbouring states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to discuss about tourism possibilities.
