Unauthorized houseboats should be seized – High Court

The High Court has directed the Karma Sena to expedite the process of cracking down on unauthorized houseboats. The yard for seizing and keeping unlicensed houseboats in Alappuzha should be set up within six months. Justice N. Nagaresh directed the Kerala Mari Time Board. The order was passed on a petition filed by the Kerala Houseboat Owners’ Association seeking action against illegally operating houseboats at Punnamada and Vembanad lakes. Lokame Tharavadu (The World Is One Family) is a large-scale curated contemporary art exhibition of Malayali artists, organized by the Kochi Biennale Foundation. Pallathuruthi Boat Club, Alappuzha won the 67th Nehru Trophy Boat Race and topped the first round of the Champions Boat League (CBL) here today, as the pioneering three-month sporting event got off to a racy start in the sprawling Punnamada Lake in Alappuzha. Today’s winner, whose CBL name is Tropical Titans, earned nine points, clocking 4.25.83 minutes to cover the distance of 1,050 metres. Kerala CM inaugurates Pilgrim Tourism Facilitation Center at Kanichukulangara

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has inaugurated the construction of the Pilgrim Tourism Facilitation Center at Kanichukulangara Devi Temple at Cherthala in Alappuzha District of Kerala Kanichukulangara Devi Temple With the expenditure of Rs 4 crore, the Facilitation Center will be built in the Devaswom owned land near the temple. RT Mission plans to introduce story telling and cultural sessions in tourism

As part of diversifying the tourism products and to encourage sustainable tourism models, the Responsible Tourism Mission of Kerala is planning a number of innovative concepts in the tourism sector of the state. The objective of the programme is to recompense the loss in the tourism sector due to drop in the number of tourists in the previous year, due to various reasons. Varkala Beach Kerala voted the ‘most welcoming place in India’ as per a poll conducted by Booking.com. According to the 7th annual edition of the Guest Review Awards survey, five destinations from Kerala got place in the total 10 most visited places in India. The stage is set for the 66th edition of the Nehru Trophy Boat Race (NTBR) at the Punnamada lake in Alappuzha. Around 81 boats, including 25 snakeboats, will make a splash on Punnamada Lake today. The event is expected to give the much-needed impetus to the flood-ravaged backwater tourism sector.
