Chembra Peak will open tomorrow

The main eco-tourism hub in Wayanad district, Chembra Peak will open on Monday. Passenger entry will be subject to covid restrictions. The Trekking hours will be from 7 am to 12 pm and visitation times are from 7 am to 3 p.m. Meppadi Range Forest Officer M.K. Samir said. Visitors should follow the instructions of forest rangers and V.S.S guides. It was closed in 2018 following a Supreme Court ruling. Edakkal Caves, Wayanad – A Journey to the Past

Wayanad coffee to be branded under name ‘Malabar’

Kerala budget presentation begins at the Assembly. Finance Minister Thomas Issac has presented the fourth budget of the present government and the tenth of his. The finance minister, in his budget, has said that the Wayanad coffee will be branded under the name ‘Malabar’. The budget presentation also says that Wayanad will be declared as a special zone for horticulture. Issac also suggested giving bank loans for planting trees in Wayanad  in the budget.  

Wayanad tourism destinations to go green

A R Ajayakumar, Wayanad District Collector, convened a meeting of the task force of ‘Haritha Keralam Mission’, to declare all tourism destinations in the district plastic-free. “As decided in the meeting, District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) will be directed to ban plastic in all tourism destinations in the district,” said the Collector after the meeting. In order to propagate the ban of plastic, a three-day vehicle rally would be organized from January 13 to 16 with the title ‘Haritha Yanam.’ The meeting also decided to organize two district-level workshops on January 21 and 27 with an effort to restore 16 ... The fifth edition of International Mountain Cycling Contest has concluded at Wayanad in Kerala on December 8. MTB Kerala-2018 has concluded at the Priyadarshini Tea Estate in Mananthavady. The event was organized by Kerala Tourism, in association with Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society and Wayanad District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC), is supported by Cycling Federation of India. The fifth edition of International Mountain Cycling Contest to be held at the hilly district of Wayanad in Kerala on December 8. MTB Kerala-2018 will be held at the Priyadarshini Tea Estate in Mananthavady. Chembra peak in Wayanad reopens for travellers

Climbing the Chembra peak in Wayanad is every traveller’s dream. But, the district authorities have closed in January due to drought in the hills. After nine long months, the peak is now open for tourists. The tourism department had reconstructed the road from Meppadi to Chembra Peak spending Rs 1.8 crore. But, a portion of the road was washed away during the monsoon and around 50 metres had to be rebuilt, the District Tourism Promotion Council said in a press release.
