Superfast AC ferry to connect Vaikom and Kochi from Nov 4

Kerala’s first air-conditioned and fastest ferry is all set to be launched by November 4 connecting the 35-km Vaikom-Ernakulam-Fort Kochi route. The ferry can accommodate 40 passengers in its AC cabin and 80 in the non-AC area. It is expected to complete the journey between Vaikom and Ernakulam Boat Jetty in 90 minutes, compared to the two hour via buses that ply between the two places. Minister for Finance Dr T M Thomas Isaac and Minister for Transport A K Saseendran are expected to be present at the vessel’s inaugural run from Vaikom. The Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport & Highways, Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation Nitin Gadkari and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will lay the foundation for India’s largest Dry Dock at Cochin Shipyard in Kerala tomorrow. The Dry Dock will give an impetus to “Make in India” initiative under Sagarmala and raise India’s share in global shipbuilding to 2 percent. India currently occupies 0.66 per cent share in global shipbuilding market. Mini water mist fire tenders to battle wildfires in Kerala

After the devastating floods in the second week of August, climate experts have predicted severe summer and drought ahead. To combat this, the state government is planning to bring mini water mist fire tenders to efficiently combat forest fire during the coming summer. In 2016, the state received 165 satellite-based fire-alerts from the Forest Fire Alert System, a national database maintained by the Forest Survey of India (FSI), Dehradun. During the 2009-10 period, the state lost over 5,000 hectares of pristine forest land to fire. A port museum is coming up in Alappuzha to pep up tourism

  Alappuzha, the Venice of the East, is going to have a port-museum at the beach, depicting the city’s glorious history and heritage. Primary discussions regarding the museum master plan has been conducted at the Alappuzha port office. Ramachandran Kadannappally, Minister for Ports and Museums, inaugurated the function. Chembra peak in Wayanad reopens for travellers

Climbing the Chembra peak in Wayanad is every traveller’s dream. But, the district authorities have closed in January due to drought in the hills. After nine long months, the peak is now open for tourists. The tourism department had reconstructed the road from Meppadi to Chembra Peak spending Rs 1.8 crore. But, a portion of the road was washed away during the monsoon and around 50 metres had to be rebuilt, the District Tourism Promotion Council said in a press release.
