Wayand district is ranked first in the implementation of Swatch Bharat programmes in the country. It was acknowledged by the Central Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation. Wayanad scored more points as per various parameters to win the position. As per reports, eight districts from Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Kerala have implemented to programmes in an efficient manner, where Wayanad topped the list. Alappuzha became the first ‘Differently abled friendly beach’ in Kerala on 3rd December 2018, on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. As part of the government’s policy to provide barrier free tourism destinations for all – ramps have been built in the beach to provide access for the differently abled visitors. The first phase of the ramps was inaugurated by S Suhas, Alappuzha District Collector. A house boat rally was organized as part of the promotion campaigns on 2nd November 2018 from the finishing point of the Nehru trophy boat race.
