Italian police recovers 500 year old stolen painting from Naple’s museum

500-year-old painting titled ‘Salvator Mundi’ from the school of Leonardo da Vinci, which was stolen from a museum collection in the Basilica di San Domenico Maggiore and was discovered by police in Naples, Italy. The painting, stolen from a Naples’ church museum, has been discovered in an apartment on the outskirts of the southern Italian city, police said on Tuesday. Surprisingly the staff at the San Domenico Maggiore museum were not even aware that the portrait of Christ, believed to have been painted by a student of Leonardo da Vinci, was missing. Restorers save Giotto frescoes in Assisi’s Chapel of the Magdalene

In Assisi, they are using medical syringes these days but it has got nothing to do with the ongoing pandemic situation. Restorers are using them to save priceless 700-year-old frescoes by Giotto. They are almost finished with a year-long project to clean and consolidate the frescoes in the Chapel of the Magdalene in the lower basilica of St. Francis that houses the tomb of the 13th-century saint. Kenya Airways to start flights to Geneva and Rome, 4 times a week

Kenya Airways plans to launch flights from Nairobi to Rome, Italy and Geneva, Switzerland on its Boeing 787 Dream-liner four times a week starting in June this year. Kenya Airways previously operated to Rome and with the resumption of flights plus the addition of Geneva; this will bring the destinations Kenya Airways serves in Europe to 5. Visitors of Venice should pay a visitor tax to get in to the city center

Venice The local government in Venice is planning to charge day-trippers for access to the city’s historic center, as a way to help defray the considerable costs of maintaining the popular tourist destination. It is as per the new budget law of Italy. Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro has tweeted on Sunday that the new ‘visitors tax’ would allow them to manage the city better and to keep it clean.  “It will allow Venetians to live with more decorum,” he added. Italy opens new visa application centre in Bahrain with VFS Global

The Italian Embassy in Bahrain has opened a new visa application centre in Manama in partnership with VFS Global on Tuesday. (09 October, 2018). In a joint statement, VFS Global and the Embassy said the new centre will provide greater seamlessness to visa application processing and residents in Bahrain need not submit their Schengen visa applications at the Embassy. “We are very pleased to start a new chapter of cooperation with VFS Global, providing a state-of-the-art service in collecting applications for short-stay Visas for travel to Italy and Malta as their main destinations in the Schengen area. Flash floods kill atleast 10 hikers in Italy

Photo Courtesy: Reuters A flash flood has killed at least 10 hikers in southern Italy on Monday when they were hurled over rocks by a raging white-water creek in a deep mountain gorge, a popular aquatic trekking spot. Eighteen people were rescued and six of those were injured in the flash rush of water in the Calabria region. There were at least 36 hikers in two organised groups inside the seven and a half mile long gorge. The number of missing trekkers are still unclear.
