At Chile’s Santiago international airport, the task of sniffing out passengers infected with COVID-19 is going to the dogs. A team of Labradors & Golden Retrievers sits when they smell the virus and get a treat. The canines adorn green “biodetector” jackets with a red cross. Sniffer dogs are best-known for finding explosives and drugs but have also been trained previously to detect cancer, malaria, and Parkinson’s disease. Chile opens spectacular 1,700-mile trail, connecting 17 national parks

Chile has opened a massive new hiking trail that spans a third of the country and connects 17 national parks. The new hiking route through the region of Patagonia, starts from Puerto Montt all the way to Cape Horn. The route comprises three already existing hiking trails and links them into one contiguous route. The land was donated to the Chilean government by Tompkins Conservation, an organization founded by American billionaire and North Face and Esprit founder Douglas Tompkins and his wife. LATAM to start non-stop flights connecting Santiago and Cusco

Cusco Three weekly non-stop flights have been announced by LATAM Airlines Peru which will connect Santiago, Chile and Cusco, Peru. Airbus A319 aircraft will be operating the route which will have a capacity to fly 144 passengers, with a total of 45,051 seats offered in a year. The service beginning on August 15th will have services on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. The tickets are already on sale. Chile eases visa rules for Venezuelans

Chile is planning to ease visa regulations for Venezuelans fleeing Maduro. In light of the “grave democratic crisis” gripping Venezuela, President Sebastian Pinera said he was creating a so-called visa of “democratic responsibility” which Venezuelan citizens could obtain through the Chilean embassy in Caracas. Chile creates five national parks over 10 mln acres

President of Chile Michelle Bachelet and Kristine McDivitt Tompkins, President and CEO of Tompkins Conservation sign decrees creating 10 million acres of new National Parks. This includes Tompkins Conservation’s two flagship parks, Patagonia and Pumalín. The one million acres and world-class infrastructure they contain have been billed as the largest donation of land from a private entity to a country.
