America’s Southwest Airlines Chief Pilot David Newton flew all the way in his Boeing 737, just to rescue puppies and kittens that were stranded after the hurricane hit Maria in San Juan. UAE gets visa free travel to Ireland

Northern Ireland’s Royal County Down golf course Emiratis can now enjoy visa-free travel to Ireland. Tourism Ireland tweeted sometime back that they are very happy about the order and hopes that the lifting of visa requirement is likely to benefit trade and tourism. Dublin Airport sets new record; receives 2.6 mln passengers

A record-breaking 29.6 million passengers travelled through Dublin Airport last year, a 6 per cent increase considering the previous year. UPDATE: (20.00 PM IST): All tsunami watches and warnings have been CANCELLED associated with the M7.9 earthquake in Alaska. A major earthquake with a magnitude of 8.2 struck 170 miles off the coast of Alaska in the wee hours of Tuesday, prompting a tsunami warning along the coastline. The earthquake prompted a tsunami warning for parts of Alaska and Canada as well as a tsunami watch for the entire US west coast. New York City’s iconic Statue of Liberty reopened at the expense of state funds following a brief closure as a result of the U.S. federal government shutdown. The Statue of Liberty was among the national monuments and parks that closed after the U.S. federal government shutdown last week. Netherlands records 17.6 million tourist arrivals

Kerala will focus more on farm tourism, eco, medical, cruise and adventure tourism segments, said Kerala Governor P Sathasivom while addressing the 14th Kerala Assembly today. The government proposes to set up cultural corridors called ‘Natarangu’ in villages and towns where suitable open spaces are available. “There will be amphitheatres where local artistic and cultural performances could be held,” informed the Governor. A new Tourism Regulatory Authority Kerala (TRAK) will be set up to ensure quality services for tourists and curb unhealthy practices in the sector. Aralam records 178 species of butterflies

The annual butterfly survey in the Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary (WLS) recorded 178 species of butterflies, including nine species that are endemic to the Western Ghats. The survey was inaugurated by K.V. Volkswagen ties up with Skoda for 6 new models in India
