SpiceJet inks $12.5 billion deal with Safran

SpiceJet has entered into a $ 12.5 billion contract with Safran for LEAP-1B engines to power its fleet of 155 Boeing 737 Max planes. The agreement, which covers ten-year rate per flight hour agreement and spare engines, was signed yesterday on the sidelines of French president Emmanuel Macron’s visit to India. The LEAP-1B engines are manufactured by CFM International, a part of Safran group of France and are the sole engine variant for the 737 Max planes. Under the terms of the agreement, CFM guarantees maintenance costs for all SpiceJet’s LEAP-1B engines on a pay by hour basis. Here comes the flying car!

Pal-V Liberty, manufactured by PAL-V International a Dutch Company, would become the first flying production car in the world. The three-wheeled car acts as a gyrocopter with two separate engines for flight as well as for the roads. The car currently is being certified by European Aviation Safety Agency and the US Federal Aviation Administration and requires a pilot license to fly it. Delhi- Tel Aviv flight from Air India

Air India to conduct direct flight from Delhi to Tel Aviv in Israel from 22nd March onwards. “The flight schedule would be extended to three times a week,” said the airline authorities. Air India had planned to execute the service earlier, but later got abandoned, as other neighbouring counties refused to share their airspace for flying to Israel. Ahead of Women’s Day, Air India has operated a flight on the Kolkata-Dimapur-Kolkata sector today with an all-women cockpit and cabin crew as part of its celebration of International Women’s Day. Emirates unveils more spacious Business Class seats on its Boeing 777 aircraft

Emirates has unveiled a brand new Business Class cabin and configuration on its Boeing 777-200LR aircraft, with new wider seats laid out in a 2-2-2 configuration for the first time. The airline has invested over US$150 million to refurbish the 10 existing 777-200LR aircraft in its fleet. The newly refurbished Emirates 777-200LR aircraft is set in a two-class configuration which offers 38 Business Class seats and 264 seats in Economy Class. Dubai Airports welcomes inaugural SaudiGulf flight

Dubai Airports welcomed the inaugural flight of SaudiGulf Airlines at Dubai International’s (DXB) Terminal 1 with a traditional water salute followed by a cake cutting ceremony. SaudiGulf will operate double daily flights between the Saudi capital of Riyadh and Dubai. Riyadh is among the top ten city destinations for DXB in terms of traffic with more than 1.85 million passengers flying between the two cities in 2017.

Fiji, Alaska Airlines expand partnership

Fiji Airways and Alaska Airlines have expanded their current partnership by signing a codeshare agreement on flights from San Francisco to two popular US cities. The codeshare agreement enables Fiji Airways to place its “FJ” code on Alaska Airlines’ flights from SFO to Seattle (SEA) and Portland (PDX), offering Fiji Airways guests seamless connections to these cities via San Francisco, and vice-versa for Alaska Airlines’ guests. Southwest Airlines raises prices on alcohol

Your drink on the Sounthwest Airline would cost more from March 2018 onwards. The price of alcoholic beverages on Southwest Airlines flights increased $1 and $2, depending on the drink. It’s the first time the carrier has changed alcohol prices since 2009. Beer will now be  charged $6 to $7, wine $6 and liquor $7. The good thing is that passengers with drink coupons won’t have to pay extra money. Travellers who fly business select or purchase higher-priced tickets will get a free drink coupon on the day of their flight.
