As torrential rain lashes Kerala, the tourism department has decided to postpone the Nehru Trophy boat race, which was scheduled on Saturday (Aug 11) at Punnamada lake in Alappuzha. The tourism department has made the announcement considering the risk from the heavy rain and flood. Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar was invited as the chief guest of the event. About 78 boats will contest in different categories in the race this time. കുമരകത്ത് പരിശീലന തുഴച്ചിലിനിടെ ചുണ്ടൻ വള്ളം എതിരെ വന്ന ശിക്കാര വള്ളത്തിൽ ഇടിച്ചു കയറി. ചുണ്ടന്റെ അണിയത്തുണ്ടായിരുന്നവർ ചാടി നീന്തിയതിനാൽ ആളപായം ഒഴിവായി. കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസമായിരുന്നു സംഭവം. കുമരകം നവധാര ബോട്ട് ക്ലബ് തുഴയുന്ന കരുവാറ്റ ശ്രീ വിനായകൻ എന്ന ചുണ്ടനാണ് ഹൗസ്ബോട്ടിന്റെ ചെറു പതിപ്പായ ശിക്കാരയിൽ ഇടിച്ചു കയറിയത്. കുമരകം മുത്തേരിമട തോട്ടിലായിരുന്നു സംഭവം. അഞ്ചു ചുണ്ടനുകളാണ് ഇവിടെ പരിശീലനം നടത്തിയിരുന്നത്.ഫിനിഷിംഗ് പോയിന്റിലേക്ക് അതിവേഗമെത്തിയ ശ്രീ വിനായകൻ സഞ്ചാരികളുമായി വന്ന ശിക്കാരയിൽ ഇടിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. ചുണ്ടൻ വള്ളത്തിന്റെ പിത്തളയിൽ തീർത്ത മുൻഭാഗം ശിക്കാരയിൽ തുളഞ്ഞു കയറി. ഇടിയുടെ ആഘാതത്തിൽ ശിക്കാര ആടിയുലഞ്ഞു. എതിരെ ശിക്കാര വരുന്നത് കണ്ടു അണിയത്തു തുഴഞ്ഞവർ തോട്ടിലേക്ക് ചാടി. ചുണ്ടനുകൾ പരിശീലനം നടത്തുന്ന ഇവിടെ ചെറു വള്ളങ്ങൾക്കും ശിക്കാരകൾക്കും ഹൗസ്ബോട്ടുകൾക്കും നിയന്ത്രണങ്ങളില്ല. പലപ്പോഴും കഷ്ടിച്ചാണ് ഇവ അപകടത്തിൽ നിന്നും രക്ഷപ്പെടുന്നത്. പരിശീലന തുഴച്ചിൽ കാണാൻ ആയിക്കണക്കിന് ആളുകളാണ് തോടിന്റെ ഇരു കരകളിലും വരുന്നത്. കുമരകത്തെ വള്ളങ്ങളുടെ കൂട്ടയിടിയുടെ ... The Kerala state Tourism department has announced Rs 25 lakh cash prize for the winners of Champions Boat League tournament. “The boat races in the state will be promoted as a major attraction for International tourists visiting the state,” said Kadakampally Surendran, Minister for Tourism. The Champions Boat League is organized with the intention to generate more excitement to this sporting event and for the promotion of boat races, he added. “Promoting boat races will attract more international and domestic tourists to the state,” said the minister. Kerala’s backwaters and major rivers are all set for yet another season of traditional boat race – ‘vallam kali’. This year, the government is planning to commence a new concept in boat race - ‘Kerala Boat League’, following the pattern of IPL. “The first nine snake boats (chundan vallam), those display competence in the Nehru Trophy Boat Race will be participating in the KBL,”said the Finance Minister Dr. T M Thomas Issac. He was talking in the General Body Meeting prior to the 66th ‘Nehru Trophy Vallam Kali’.
