India’s semi-high speed train ‘Vande Bharat Express’ to make its maiden run today

India’s much-awaited locally manufactured semi high-speed train ‘Vander Bharat Express’ (coded as Train 18), will make its maiden run on 15th February 2019.  The train is built by Integral Coach Factory (ICF) of Chennai under PM’s ‘Make in India’ programme. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the train on New Delhi-Kanpur-Allahabad-Varanasi route from the New Delhi Railway Station. Indian Railways extends 22 pairs of train services

Indian railway extends 22 pairs of train services running on Indian Railways system. It was announced by Piyush Goyal, Minister or Railways and Coal, in Rail Bhavan on Wednesday. These extensions will provide additional connectivity between various places in the country. Vinod Kumar Yadav, Chairman, Railway Board; Girish Pillai, Member Traffic, Railway Board and other senior officers were present on the occasion. Indian Railway to ensure ‘jerk-free’ journey to passengers

Indian Railways envisages providing a comfortable jerk free journey to its passengers and endeavours to achieve that with the use of better technology continuously. Currently travel by rail is not that comfortable as travelling by road and Air. In order to minimize the effect of jerks and to improve riding comfort for passengers, Indian Railways has introduced new design of Center Buffer Couplers (CBC) with Balanced Draft Gear (BDG) as per specification prepared by Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), Lucknow. More trains of Indian Railways to use solar energy

Considering the success of the pilot project, Indian Railways is planning to adopt the solar energy system on more trains. It was informed by the Rajen Ghain, the Minister of State of Railways. The first solar-powered DEMU (diesel electrical multiple unit) train was launched in July 2018, from the Safdarjung railway station in Delhi. The train run from Sarai Rohilla in Delhi to Farukh Nagar in Haryana. A total of 16 solar panels, each producing 300 Wp, are fitted in six coaches. Special tourist train to connect Gurudwaras

The Indian Railways is all set to start ‘Panj Takht Express’ from January 14, 2019, which will link the five takhts (temporal seats/Gurudwaras) of Sikhs. The five Gurudwaras are Akal Takht in Amritsar, Takht Kesgarh Sahib in Anandpur Sahib, Takht Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo near Bathinda, Takht Hazur Sahib at Nanded and Takht Patna Sahib in Patna. With 800 seats in three-tier air-conditioned coaches, the train will complete the journey in 9 nights and 10 days. Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) has signed an MoU with National Building Construction Corporation Ltd on 30th June 2017 for redevelopment of 10 stations, viz. Tirupati, Delhi Sarai Rohilla, Nellore, Madgaon, Charbagh (Lucknow), Gomtinagar, Kota, Thane New, Ernakulam Jn. and Puducherry as a part of the SMART City project launched by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Pay more for drinking water at Indian Railway stations!

If you are one of the passengers who relay on the water vending machines at the railway stations, you have to pay Rs 1 extra for a glass of water. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has also proposed to increase the prices to fill up one bottle by Rs 1. The railway board has also approved the proposals for the new costs at the WVMs. Earlier a 300 ml glass of water was priced at Re 1 but the passengers will now have to pay Rs 2 for same. New look for the Buddhist Circuit Train Indian Railways launched the new look Buddhist Circuit Tourist Train on Saturday, 8th December 2018. The luxury train is with a mini library, a kitchen with modern appliances and stylish bathrooms. It was revealed by a press release of the Railways. India’s first railway station inside tunnel to come up in Himachal

For the first time in India, a railway station will be built inside a tunnel at a height of 3,000 metres, on the strategic Bilaspur-Manali-Leh line close to the Sino-India border. Once completed, the Keylong station in Himachal Pradesh will be the first on the railway network to be inside a tunnel. Keylong is the administrative centre of Lahaul and Spiti district, 26 km north of Manali and 120 km from the Indo-Tibetan border. “The Keylong station, in the project, will be inside the tunnel according to the first phase of the location survey. Indian Railways to have a new name soon

The Indian Railways is planning to give a new name to replace its existing name Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). The decision to change the name surfaces after the Railways department feel that the name it has now is not attractive and the abbreviation is not cute enough. Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal has asked the the higher officials of the railways to find an attractive name. The ministry has asked to keep the brand name small, attractive and easy to remember. No free travel insurance in trains from September 1

The Indian Railways said it will not provide free travel insurance to its passengers starting September 1. Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has decided to stop free travel insurance starting September 1 and “the option of free insurance will be optional”. Travellers, while booking tickets through its website or mobile application, will have to choose from two options: to opt-in or opt-out of travel insurance. IRCTC has been giving free travel insurance to passengers since December 2017 with an aim to promote the digital transaction. The Railways had earlier also waived off ticket booking charge for users who make payments via debit ... Railways to accept digital Aadhaar, driving licence as valid ID proof

Railways have agreed to accept soft copies of driving licence and Aadhar as identity proof if they are stored in DigiLocker. DigiLocker is a digital storage device used by people to store official documents on cloud. Indian Railways sent a message to all zonal principal chief commercial managers which conveyed that from now onwards Aadhar card and driving licence stored on DigiLocker will be considered valid identity proof. “While undertaking journey in a train, if a passenger shows the Aadhaar/Driving Licence from the ‘Issued Documents’ section by logging into his/her DigiLocker account, the same should be considered as valid proof ... IRCTC introduces bagasse based food packaging

Ministry of Railways’ PSU IRCTC has launched its trial run of environment friendly bagasse based food packaging on 8 select Shatabdis and Rajdhanis originating from New Delhi. Passengers in these trains will be served meals on eco-friendly disposable plates (compostable containers) instead of the polymer ones as part of the Railways’ drive to go green.
