അമേരിക്കയിലെ വടക്കേ അറ്റത്തുള്ള പ്രദേശമായ അലാസ്‌കയില്‍ 66 ദിവസങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് ശേഷം സൂര്യനുദിച്ചു. നവംബര്‍ 18നായിരുന്നു അവസാനമായി ഇവിടെ സുര്യന്‍ അസ്തമിച്ചത്. രണ്ട് മാസത്തിലധികം നീണ്ട ഇരുട്ടിന് ശേഷം ബുധനാഴ്ച ഉച്ചയ്ക്ക് പ്രാദേശിക സമയം 1.04നാണ് സൂര്യന്‍ ഉദിച്ചത്. 4300 പേര്‍ മാത്രമാണ് അലാസ്‌കയിലെ ബാറോ പ്രദേശത്ത് താമസിക്കുന്നത്. മൈനസ് 13 ഡിഗ്രി സെല്‍ഷ്യസായിരുന്നു സൂര്യോദയ സമയത്തെ താപനില. 1.04ന് ഉദിച്ച സൂര്യന്‍ 2.14ന് അസ്തമിച്ചു. ഇനിയുള്ള ദിവസങ്ങളില്‍ ഇവിടെ പകലിന് ദൈര്‍ഘ്യം കൂടിക്കൂടി വരും. ഫെബ്രുവരിയോടെ ദിവസവും ശരാശരി നാല് മണിക്കൂര്‍ സൂര്യപ്രകാശം ലഭിക്കും. പകലിന്റെ ദൈര്‍ഘ്യം കൂടുന്ന പ്രവണത മേയ് 12 വരെ തുടരും. പിന്നീട് ഉദിച്ചുനില്‍ക്കുന്ന സൂര്യന്‍ ഓഗസ്റ്റ് രണ്ട് വരെ അസ്തമിക്കാതെ നില്‍ക്കും. ഈയാഴ്ച ഇടയ്ക്കിടയ്ക്ക് സൂര്യപ്രകാശം കാണാനാവുമെങ്കിലും ശരാശരി താപനില മൈനസ് 10ന് താഴെ തന്നെയായിരിക്കും. സൂര്യന്‍ അസ്തമിക്കാത്ത മാസങ്ങളില്‍ പോലും താപനില 47 ഡിഗ്രിയില്‍ കൂടാറുമില്ല.

പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് മാലിന്യമുക്ത മൂന്നാറെന്ന സന്ദേശം രാജ്യത്തിന് മുന്നില്‍ എത്തിക്കുന്നതിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി മൂന്നാറില്‍ മാരത്തോണ്‍ സംഘടിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. മൂന്നാര്‍ കെസ്ട്രല്‍ അഡ്വഞ്ചേഴ്സാണ് സന്ദര്‍ശകര്‍ക്കായി മാരത്തോണ്‍ സംഘടിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. നാല് കാറ്റഗറിയിലായി നടക്കുന്ന മാരത്തോണ്‍ ഫെബ്രുവരി 9-ന് ആരംഭിക്കും. പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് മാലിന്യം ഇല്ലാതാക്കുക എന്ന ലക്ഷ്യത്തെ മുന്‍നിര്‍ത്തി സംഘടിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനാല്‍ ഗ്രീന്‍ മാരത്തോണ്‍ എന്നാണ് പരിപാടിക്ക് പേരിട്ടിരിക്കുന്നത്. 71 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ ദൈഘ്വമുള്ള അള്‍ട്രാ മാരത്തോണ്‍, 42.195 ദൈര്‍ഘ്വമുള്ള ഫുള്‍ മാരത്തോണ്‍, 21.098 ദൈര്‍ഘ്വമുള്ള ആഫ് മാരത്തോണ്‍, 7 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ ദൂരമുള്ള റണ്‍ ഫോര്‍ ഫണ്‍ എന്നിങ്ങനെയാണ് കാറ്റഗറി. അള്‍ട്രാ മാരത്തോണിന് പുറമെ 2500, ഫുള്‍ മാരത്തോണിന് 1300, ആഫ് മാരത്തോണിന് 1000, റണ്‍ ഫോര്‍ ഫണിന് 700 എന്നിങ്ങനെയാണ് രജിസ്ട്രേഷന്‍ ഫീസ്. ഫെബ്രുവരി 9 ന് അള്‍ട്രയും 10-ന് മറ്റ് കാറ്റഗറിയിലുള്ള മാരത്തനുകളും നടക്കും. രാവിലെ 5 മണി മുതലാണ് പരിപാടി ആരംഭിക്കുന്നത്. പ്രദേശവാസികള്‍ക്കും വിദ്യാര്‍ത്ഥികള്‍ക്കും പ്രത്യേക ഇളവുകള്‍ ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കും. ഇന്റര്‍നാഷണല്‍ അസോസിയേഷന്‍ ഫോര്‍ അത്ലറ്റിക്ക് ഫെഡറേഷന്‍, അസോസിയേഷന്‍ ... Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran has promised to consider the Kadamakudy tourism project in the next tourism working group meeting. He was talking to the media after visiting Pizhala, a part of Kadamakudy on Thursday, to review the proposed project. “Kadamakkudy has immense potential to attract tourists. Wayand district is ranked first in the implementation of Swatch Bharat programmes in the country. It was acknowledged by the Central Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation. Wayanad scored more points as per various parameters to win the position. Aditya, the first solar powered ferry in the country, has completed two years of operation today. It was a major step from the part of the state government in public transport. With the introduction of Aditya, The Department of Water Transport has accomplished the concept of utilizing modern ideas in a beneficial way. Ayyappancoil (Ayyappan Kovil) is a village, approximately 12 km far from Kattappana in Idukki District. It is said that   Ayyappancoil was a big township in early 1960s. During the construction of Idukki hydro-electric project, the township was evacuated by the Kerala government. When the dam came, the area was submerged in water and transportation for the people on the other shore became difficult.
