Qatar Airways to launch full-service airline in India soon

Qatar Airways said it will soon move an application to launch a full-service airline in India for domestic operations. The proposed airline would be fully financed by Qatar’s sovereign fund and would have Indians heading the board, said AkbarAl Baker, CEO of the Airlines. “We will move the application soon. I don’t know really by when because it (the process) takes time,” he said. Set up in 2005, Qatar Investment Authority manages the sovereign wealth fund of the State of Qatar and its assets under management are estimated at USD 335 billion. Vistara bans consumption of tobacco on flights

On a very positive note, the Vistara airlines has banned consumption of gutka (tobacco) on board its aircraft, possibly becoming the first Indian airline to do so. “At @airvistara, we take the environment seriously. The 50 per cent on board disposable plastics reduction and low emissions aircraft are just a start. Cleanliness at all times is part of our mantra. Mumbai airport handles 1,003 flight movements in a single day

The Mumbai international airport has broke its own world record of handling most flight movements in 24 hours. The airport, which is the busiest single runway airport in the world, handled 1,003 flights in a single days. The previous record held by the Mumbai airport handled landing and departure of 980 flights in February this year. London’s Gatwick airport is the distant second on the list with over 800 flight movements per day. Emirates launches Dubai-Newark service

Emirates has launched a new non-stop service between Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Dubai from 1 June 2018, adding to its existing daily flight which operates with a stop in Athens, Greece. The new non-stop service is operated with an Emirates Boeing 777-300ER, offering 8 suites in First Class, 42 seats in Business, 306 in Economy Class, and 19 tonnes of belly-hold cargo capacity. Etihad to launch new service to Barcelona

Etihad Airways has announced the introduction of a new scheduled service linking Abu Dhabi, capital of the UAE, and Barcelona, Spain, effective 21 November 2018. The route will initially be operated five times a week by a two-class Airbus A330-200 before becoming a daily operation from 31 March 2019. World’s shortest international flight by Aruba

Aruba Airlines has launched what can be called one of the shortest flights in the world. The airlines has introduced a flight connecting Venezuela and Aruba, which can be reached in 10 minutes. Just 50 miles (80 km) separate the two airports in Aruba (AUA) and Punto Fijo (LSP) in northern Venezuela. The two countries, however, are separated by only 15 miles (24 km). Hainan launches direct flight between Tianjin and Vancouver

Hainan Airlines has announced the launch of a direct flight between Tianjin and Vancouver. The flight HU7959 is the first direct passenger air route linking Tianjin with North America. The flight, operated using a Boeing 787 wide-body aircraft, will take about 11 hours and fly every Monday and Friday. This year being the China-Canada Tourism Year, the new air route is expected to improve bilateral economic and cultural exchanges, according to Dave Murphy, Minister (Commercial) at the Embassy of Canada to China. Jet Airways to connect Patna with Allahabad from June 14

Jet Airways said it will connect Patna with Allahabad from June 14 under the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik) scheme. The flight will leave Allahabad at 8 am and reach Patna at 9.40 am. For the return journey, the flight will take off from Patna at 10.10 am and reach Allahabad at 11.50 am. The 72-seater aircraft will operate thrice a week -Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Delta flights to launch in India by 2019

Delta Air Lines has announced it will resume nonstop flights next year between United States and India’s financial capital, Mumbai. The airline is crediting recent U S agreements with Qatar and the United Arab Emirates over alleged subsidies to three big Arabian Gulf carriers that also fly to India. Delta said it will announce the schedule details later this year. Draft Air Passenger Charter proposes zero ticket cancellation fee

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has released the first draft of the passengers’ charter, spelling out rules for cancellation fee, compensation for missing connecting flight and plans to introduce wi-fi services in flights. The new regulations will come into effect after being approved by the Union Cabinet. If the passenger is informed about the cancellation of flights less than two weeks before and up to 24 hours of the scheduled departure time, the airline must offer alternate flight allowing the passenger to depart within two hours of the booked scheduled departure time or refund the ticket, as acceptable to the passenger. ...
