Tata Group increases stake in AirAsia India to maximise its share in India’s airline industry

Tata Group on 29th DEC has announced it would increase its holdings in the Indian-based joint venture with AirAsia from 51% to 84%. AirAsia, owned by Malaysian tycoon Tony Fernandes, has been scaling back its operations during the Covid pandemic. Last week Tata also put in a bid for the country’s struggling national carrier Air India. Tata Group is paying AirAsia around $38m (£28m) for the increased stake in the AirAsia India joint venture which began in 2014. AirAsia India to start multiple flights connecting Ahmedabad

Starting from November 22, AirAsia India will fly daily on the Ahmedabad-Bengaluru route. The airline also has plans to start multiple flights connecting Ahmedabad with major destinations like Delhi, Goa and Hyderabad. Ahmedabad will become the 21st destination on the airline’s network after the beginning of services on the Ahmedabad-Bengaluru route. “We will soon be launching Ahmedabad-Delhi by next month, with increased frequency to 3X (three times) daily, further down the line. AirAsia launches daily direct flights from Delhi starting at Rs 1,365

AirAsia has introduced daily direct flights from Delhi to Chandigarh and Bengaluru from August 1 and 5, respectively. The operations on the Delhi-Chandigarh route will be starting at Rs 1,365. The airline also announced the timings of the flights on the route, stating that the flight would leave from Delhi at 10:40 am every day and would reach Chandigarh at 11:50 am. AirAsia to connect Chennai and Hyderabad from Dec 21

AirAsia has announced that its operations of the flights on the Chennai-Hyderabad sector would begin from December 21. Passengers can book tickets via the airliners’ mobile application and avail promotional fares from Rs 1,399 for flights between Chennai and Hyderabad and Rs 1,899 from Hyderabad to Chennai. AirAsia to launch Manila-Shenzhen direct flights in December

AirAsia is all set to launch direct flight between Manila and Shenzhen starting December 1. The carrier had earlier started its Cebu-Shenzhen flights last April. “China is an important market for us and we are looking to expand our network further and connect Filipino travelers to new and exciting business and leisure cities,” said AirAsia Philippines CEO Dexter Comendador. The carrier will fly direct to Shenzhen every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Direct flights from Cebu to Shenzhen are also on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Domestic air traffic grows 26% in April

The domestic air traffic grew at a robust rate of 26 per cent in April with various airlines together carrying 11.5 million passengers, up from 9.1 million in the same month last year, as per government data. SpiceJet holds the top position once again in terms of seat utilisation per aircraft with 95.5 per cent seats being booked. It was followed by IndiGo (91.9 per cent), GoAir (89.5 per cent), Vistara (88.8 per cent), AirAsia (87.5 per cent), Jet Airways (85.6 per cent) and Air India (84 per cent). Asia is known as the powerhouse of aviation market. However, according to new research by flight data provider OAG, three of world’s busiest routes are North American airports. AirAsia has unveiled plans to launch direct flights between Phuket and Penang on 1 July 2018.
