Kerala to ensure basic amenities for drivers in hotels: Minister

Shri Riyas meets representatives of taxi and tour operators’ associations Thiruvananthapuram, Jan. 10: In a labour-friendly initiative in the tourism sector, necessary steps will be taken to ensure basic amenities for drivers in hotels, resorts and homestays, Tourism Minister Shri P A Mohamed Riyas said today. Speaking at a meeting of taxi and autorickshaw unions and travel and tour operators’ associations here, Shri Riyas said hotels, resorts and homestays must ensure that basic facilities are provided to drivers coming with guests. India lift restrictions on e-Visa for 156 countries

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has lifted restrictions on e-visas for foreigners from 156 countries, allowing nationals from 156 countries to avail of e-medical visa, e-business visa, e-medical attendant visa, and e-conference visa, according to reports. The MHA order will allow nationals except those from China, Canada, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and the UK to travel to India under e-visa schemes. Travel restrictions for these countries are set to be reviewed this month. However, the ban on tourist visas is still in place. Archaeologists unearth 2500-year-old bronze bull idol in Greece at ancient Olympia

Greek archaeologists have unearthed by chance a more than 2,500-year-old bronze bull idol at the archaeological site of Olympia, the culture ministry said on Friday. The statuette was found intact, close to the temple of ancient Greek god Zeus at Olympia. Italian police recovers 500 year old stolen painting from Naple’s museum

500-year-old painting titled ‘Salvator Mundi’ from the school of Leonardo da Vinci, which was stolen from a museum collection in the Basilica di San Domenico Maggiore and was discovered by police in Naples, Italy. The painting, stolen from a Naples’ church museum, has been discovered in an apartment on the outskirts of the southern Italian city, police said on Tuesday. Staged by the Polish Tourism Organisation’s International Office in Beijing, a three-month promotional campaign on the Tuniu platform, one of China’s leading online travel agencies and tourism portals, has just wrapped up. The objective was to introduce the Chinese audience to Poland’s tourism highlights related to Fryderyk Chopin and to showcase itinerary proposals for touring our country. At Pompeii archaeologists uncover ancient street food shop

Archaeologists in Pompeii, the city buried in a volcanic eruption in 79 AD, have made the extraordinary find of a frescoed hot food and drinks shop that served up the ancient equivalent of street food to Roman passersby. Known as a termopolium, Latin for hot drinks counter, the shop was discovered in the archaeological park’s Regio V site, which is not yet open the public, and unveiled on Saturday.
