All monuments that were closed amid the Covid-19 pandemic can be opened from July 4, the India government has said. “It has been decided that all the monuments can be opened with full security,” Union Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel said in a tweet on Thursday. Under ‘unlock-2’ which got underway on July 1, the government is trying to open up more activities outside containment zones. Augmented reality app in Korean to promote heritage sites in India

An augmented reality-based mobile application has been launched in Korean language to offer visual travel assistance to tourists from South Korea. The Korean version of the tourist application is available for exploring six UNESCO heritage sites — Qutub Minar, Red Fort and Humayun’s Tomb in Delhi; and Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri in Agra, according to the Korean Cultural Centre India (KCCI). “In future the application will incorporate other cultural heritage sites in India. “The application includes Korean language description and guide for Korean tourists visiting India. The top ten revenue generating monuments during 2015-18 are Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Qutub Minar, Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb, Sun Temple Konark, Group of monuments Mamallapuram, Ellora Caves, Group of monuments Khajuraho, and Ajanta Caves, Aurangabad. The year wise details of expenditure incurred for conservation of protected monuments under Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) during 2015-2018 are: In 2015-16, the Expenditure incurred was Rs 23746.25 lakh, Rs 30176.22 lakh in 2016-17 and Rs 41076.79 lakh in 2017-18.
