Avalanche at California ski resort leaves two injured

Two people were injured at Squaw Valley Ski Resort in California ski after an avalanche caught five people. One of them is seriously injured, report sates. Dozens of rescuers rushed to the scene Friday afternoon at  east of Sacramento. One man was hospitalized with a serious lower body injury, another person was treated and released and three people weren’t hurt. The resort has been closed. The avalanche occurred a day after a snowboarder died at the resort after a blizzard packing 150-mph winds hit the Sierra Nevada.

E-system to replace visa stickers in UAE

UAE residency visa stickers, which are placed on passport pages, would be replaced by a new electronic system, the Ministry of Interior said. The General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs had reportedly discussed the possibility during a meeting held in Ajman last week. The proposal comes in line with Vision 2021 and is indicative of a general migration to smart digital services that reduce paperwork, time and effort. French Embassy attacked in Burkina Faso

Terrorist groups had attacked the French Embassy and an army headquarters, located at Ouagadougou, capital city of Burkina Faso in Africa. According to reports over 8 people died on spot, leaving dozens injured. Meanwhile, it was the third attack over Ouagadougou in the past three years, which was conducted by associates of Al-Qaeda. Booking.com announces 10 start-ups for its Sustainable Tourism programme

Booking.com, one of the world’s largest e-commerce companies and digital technology leader, announced the 10 sustainable tourism startups that will be joining the 2018 Booking Booster Programme in Amsterdam in May 2018. Building upon its successful launch in 2017, the three-week accelerator programme consists of a series of lectures, hands-on workshops and coaching, culminating in a final pitch to receive a scaling grant of up to €500k from Booking.com’s €2 million fund in order to help support the next stage of the startups’ projected growth. Majority of travellers use review sites before booking: Survey

More than three quarters of travellers use review sites such as Yelp and Trip Advisor to conduct research prior to booking services, according to a survey conducted by The GO Group LLC, an international ground transportation provider. More than 150 people responded to the survey, which asked about site usage for accommodations, activities, events and ground transportation. When asked about use of sites for hotels and other accommodations, 13 per cent of respondents said they always check sites; 31 per cent said they do so frequently, 34 per cent said sometimes and 22 per cent said never.
