The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has launched its new high-level guidelines for inclusion and diversity in the Travel & Tourism sector, which have been compiled to support businesses of all sizes and provide an inclusive work environment for all employees. Research has shown that by supporting a diverse and inclusive workplace companies experience benefits such as greater profitability, increased creativity and innovation, and a happier workforce. Hilton lays off 2,100 employees, joining Marriott and Hyatt in reducing staff

Hilton Hotels is laying off 2,100 employees, or roughly 22% of its corporate workforce, as the pandemic continues to drive down demand for leisure and corporate travel. The hotel chain is also extending the existing furloughs for many of its corporate staff for an additional 90 days, CNN Business has reported. Hilton had announced the initial furloughs, as well as temporary pay cuts for executives, in March. “Never in Hilton’s 101-year history has our industry faced a global crisis that brings travel to a virtual standstill,” CEO Christopher Nassetta said in a press release, adding he was “devastated” by the decision. Hilton’s new Singapore property by early 2022

Hilton’s new Singapore property is all set to become the hospitality major’s Asia-Pacific flagship. The new hotel is expected to be ready by early 2022, and will have over 1,000 rooms, five restaurants and bars and suites. Located in the middle of the Orchard Road shopping strip, the Hilton Singapore Orchard is in fact a $90 million make-over of the Mandarin Orchard Singapore. Hilton to launch two new properties in Bangkok by 2022

With an aim to expand its presence in Thailand, Hilton has announced its plans to launch two new properties in Bangkok by 2022. Both the hotels will be in the Thai capital of Bangkok, and will form part of Hilton’s expansion into this territory, joining seven hotels currently in the pipeline. Currently, the brand operates eleven properties across Thailand and is looking to expand beyond the country’s central areas of concentration, Phuket and Bangkok, to areas including Chiang Mai and Krabi. Canopy by Hilton set to debut in Africa

Hilton has announced the signing of a management agreement with Growthpoint Properties, South Africa’s largest REIT, to open a hotel under its lifestyle Canopy by Hilton brand. The 150 guestroom Canopy by Hilton Cape Town Longkloof is expected to begin welcoming guests in 2021 and will be the brand’s debut property in Africa. Hilton plans to double its inventory in India

Hospitality major Hilton, which has around 17 hotels in the country across five of its brands, plans to double it in the next three or four years.
