MOT appoints Association of Buddhist Tour Operators to promote Buddhist tourism

Ministry of Tourism has appointed Association of Buddhist Tour Operators (ABTO) as Advisor in National Tourism Advisory Council (NTAC). The ministry had nominated the association to the council for preserving heritage monuments and promoting Buddhist tourism in the country. “ABTO is a platform for all tourism service providers and others stakeholders engaged in the promotion of Buddhist pilgrimage tourism in India, Nepal and other Asian countries. Maharashtra seeks help of Buddhist Monks to promote Tourism

Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation aims at promoting tourism in Buddhist hotspots of the states with the help of Buddhist Monks. MTDC is going to seek help of monks from 15 neighbouring Buddhist countries. Thhese monks will propagate Buddhism’s traditional and historical facets, in the state in the form of caves, stupas, gumphas and viharas, among other artefacts. Govt set to expand Buddhist tourism circuit to 21 more states

The government already had plans to have seven main Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Now the government plans to expand the ‘Buddhist Circuit’ to other 21 states. The states included in the plan are Kerala, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir and West Bengal. The Ministry of Tourism has already identified stupas and viharas in these states and small intrastate Buddhist zones will be made around these.
