മുംബൈ-പുണെ എക്സ്പ്രസ് വേയിൽ 22 മീറ്റർ വീതം വീതിയുള്ള രണ്ടു തുരങ്കങ്ങൾ കൂടി നിർമിക്കുന്നു. യാത്രാസമയം കുറയ്ക്കാനുള്ള പദ്ധതിയുമായാണ് മഹാരാഷ്ട്ര സ്റ്റേറ്റ് റോഡ് ട്രാൻസ്പോർട്ട് ഡവലപ്മെന്‍റ് കോർപറേഷൻ രംഗത്തെത്തിയത്.  ഇരുനഗരങ്ങളിലേക്കും പതിവായി പോയിവരുന്നവർക്ക് ഭാവിയിൽ വലിയ ആശ്വാസമാകും ഈ തുരങ്ക പാത. പദ്ധതി യാഥാർഥ്യമാകാൻ വർഷങ്ങൾ എടുക്കുമെങ്കിലും നിലവിൽ അവധി ദിനങ്ങളിൽ കടുത്ത ഗതാഗതക്കുരുക്ക് അനുഭവപ്പെടുന്ന പാതയിൽ പുതിയ വികസന പദ്ധതികൾക്കുള്ള നീക്കം യാത്രക്കാർക്ക് ഏറെ ഗുണകരമാകും. ഒൻപതു കിലോമീറ്ററോളം നീളുമുളളതായിരിക്കും തുരങ്കം. കുസ്ഗാവ്-ചവാനി ഗ്രാമങ്ങൾ ബന്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്ന വിധത്തിലായിരിക്കും തുരങ്കപാത. മുംബൈ-പുണെ യാത്രയിൽ നിലവിലെ പാതയേക്കാൾ 20 മിനിറ്റെങ്കിലും ലാഭമുണ്ടാക്കുന്നതാകുമെന്ന് എം.എസ്.ആര്‍.ഡി.സി അധികൃതർ അറിയിച്ചു.

As part of the Missing Link Project, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), is constructing one of the longest four-lane tunnels in the world, between Mumbai and Pune. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2021. The project, joining Kusgaon village and Chavani village in Pune, would be at a length of over 19.8 km.
