Punjab to provide free training for youth interested in tourism career

The Punjab tourism department will provide free training and skill development to the youth in the state who are interested in a career in the tourism and hospitality industry post COVID-19. The tourism and cultural affairs minister of the state, Charanjit Singh Channi, said that more than 2000 students would be trained under the umbrella scheme of ‘Hunar Se Rozgar Tak’. The trained students will also be assisted in job placements. Punjab’s tourism minister directs completion of all pending projects by end of September

Punjab’s Tourism Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has directed the officials of the department to complete all projects on time, after assessing the situation along with the concerned officials. Principal Secretary Tourism & Cultural Affairs Hussan Lal, IAS, along with Director, Tourism and Cultural Affairs Kanwalpreet Kaur Brar held a review meeting to discuss the deadlines regarding completion of all projects. Amritsar’s tourism sector in crisis, hotels fear closure

Amritsar’s tourism industry is looking down the barrel. There are around 700 hotels and guest houses in Amritsar which attract international as well as domestic tourists. But all of them are running empty, and fearing closure. Tourism to become the major revenue earner of Punjab

Golden Temple, Panjab Navjot Singh Sidhu, Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister of Punjab, states Tourism is going to be the major revenue earner of the state. Kavita Singh takes charge as Punjab Tourism Director

Kavita Singh, 2004 batch IAS officer has been appointed the Director of Tourism and Cultural Affairs in Punjab. The appointment was as part of a big reshuffle in the government’s administrative set up. Kavita was working as the Director for Social Security and Development of Women and Children. Earlier in 2014, she was appointed as Managing Director of Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation Ltd (CITCO). Museum of the Sikhs to come up in Punjab

Navjot Singh Sidhu, Tourism and cultural affairs minister of Punjab has finalised a plan to develop Virasat-e-Khalsa, a museum of the Sikhs. The proposal was announced on 20th July, which will make the Virasat a ‘strategic tourist spot’ in the state. Punjab to have Rs 590 crore tourism package

Almost 30 tourist destinations in the states will be enhanced with a cost of Rs 590.97 crores, said Cultural Affairs and Tourism Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu. Once the project is completed, Amritsar would be the centre of tourist activity, with its 11 destinations on the list. This will be done with the aid of Asian Development Bank worth Rs 344 Crores. Apart from this Rs. 96.67 Crores will be availed from the Swadesh Darshan Scheme, aiming at revamping religious and historical cities. Punjab Tourism join hands with Guru Nanak Univ for tourism boost

With an aim to boost tourism in the state, the Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board (PHTPB) has entered into an agreement with Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU). Shivdular Singh Dhillon, CEO of the PHTPB, and Vice-Chancellor of the GNDU Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU). “No stone is being left unturned to make Punjab a frontline state in tourism sector.
