Pulling the strings and dancing to the tunes ; Kerala’s ritual art with puppets

Tholppavakkoothu, literally meaning ‘leather puppet play’, is a ritual art performed during the annual festivals in the Kaali temples of Palakkad district. The theme of the play is based on the Kamba Ramayana, narrated in a diction that is a mixture of Malayalam and Tamil dialectical variations. The play covers the whole gamut of events from Lord Sree Rama’s birth to his coronation as the King of Ayodhya. ‘Nang Yai’ shadow puppet theatre to enrich ‘Happy Quarantine’ experience at Thailand

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) continues to enhance and enrich the Amazing Thailand Happy Quarantine activities to help break the boredom of quarantine for tourists. This time through traditional ‘Nang Yai’ shadow puppet theatre performances. The fourth episode of the ‘Amazing Nang Yai’ show at the Royal Rattanakosin Hotel on 25 January, followed by the fifth episode at the Chor Cher Hotel on 26 January formed part of TAT’s ongoing efforts to lighten the mood for quarantined tourists.
