Growing spread of covid; Tourist centers in Ooty closed
Tourist attractions in the Nilgiris district, including the Botanical Garden, Rose Garden, and Boat House, were closed. The Tamil Nadu government had yesterday banned tourists from traveling to the Nilgiris, Kodaikanal, and Yercaud in view of the growing spread of covid. The Ooty Botanical Garden, Rose Garden, and Boat House, which are run by the Department of Tourism, were closed on Tuesday. The lake regularly hosts various competitions during the flower festival. Nilgiris experienced drop in number of visitors during 2018
The Nilgiri Mountains, one of the popular tourist destinations in the Western Ghats of Tamil Nadu, witnessed drop in number of visitors in 2018. There is around 10 per cent decline in the number of tourists, when compared to the previous year. The main reason of the drop is said to be the factors affected the neighbouring states – Kerala and Karnataka in 2018.
