Are we going to have a Desi version of Facebook?

For the past couple of days, facebook has been in the limelight for all the wrong reasons, putting scores of people in fear and doubt about the data breach. In response to the Facebook-Cambridge Analytica data breach controversy, Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra has called for Indian Startups to find an alternative of Facebook – a Desi version of the social networking site. “Beginning to wonder if it’s time to consider having our own social networking company that is very widely owned and professionally managed and willingly,” he tweeted. India warns Facebook on data breach

Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has warned Facebook that if found that the social media giant is involved in any data breach of Indians, the government will take strict action against them including the summoning of Mark Zuckerberg to India. “If Facebook is found to be involved in data breach of Indians, we will take very strict action against them including the summoning of Mark Zuckerberg to India,” said the minister. “Today, 20 crore Indians are on Facebook.
