This country slashes VAT for benefit of various tourism businesses

Cyprus has temporarily reduced VAT charges from 9% to 5% for hotels, restaurants and taxi transport. The move is intended to support the tourism industry with a boost in revenues – but the reduction is not likely to be passed on to the customer, the Cyprus Mail has reported. The rate reduction will be applicable for the period from July 1, 2020 to January 10, 2021. Cyprus to have a new Tourism Ministry

Kourion, Cyprus Cyprus Parliament on Tuesday passed a law establishing a junior ministry for tourism, scheduled to begin operation in January 2019. The government bill also provides for creating the position of an under-secretary to the president for tourism. The bill will come into being from 2nd January 2019. In a statement, deputy government spokeswoman Klelia Vasiliou called it a ‘milestone for boosting the tourism sector, a key pillar of the Cypriot economy’.
