J&K promotes adventure & snow tourism in Bhaderwah Valley

With an aim to promote adventure and snow tourism in Bhaderwah Valley, the Bhadarwah Development Authority (BDA) in collaboration with Jammu Kashmir Tourism Department and Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering (JIM) is planning to organise a week-long training workshop from March 19.

Besides being a wonderful destination for leisure and summer tourism, Bhaderwah has got ample scope for adventure and snow tourism as well and they have been demanding that snow sports and other adventure activities should be projected and promoted to attract tourists round the year.

“Bhaderwah can become a haven for adventure tourism and to tap this potential, we have decided to explore the possibilities to project snow and adventure sports in a practical way to attract tourists round the year,” said Rajinder Prasad Khajuria, CEO of BDA.

The week-long workshop will impart basic training in adventure tourism activities including snow skiing, river rafting, rock climbing, Paragliding and zip wire, in collaboration with JK Tourism and JIM. Rajinder Prasad feels that this will not only attract tourists but also help the youngsters play a vital role during natural calamities, especially in case of snow avalanches as well.

“Our sole aim is to make Bhaderwah a hub of adventure activities, which has off-late become the fascination of the younger generation. By promoting adventure tourism, Bhaderwah will attract tourists round the year,” said Shazia Rehman, Assistant Director, Department of Tourism.

To showcase the adventure tourism potential of Bhaderwah outside Jammu and Kashmir, the authorities have decided to invite and sponsor youth from south, east and west of India to attend the training workshop.
