Unruly Indian Passenger who went on a rampage in aircraft detained at Bulgaria

An unruly Indian passenger who was on board an Air France flight to New Delhi from Ghana via Paris forced the aircraft to make an emergency landing Sofia, Bulgaria’s capital, according to media reports.

As per the Bulgarian News Agency BTA, the Indian national, whose identity was not disclosed to the public , has been detained for 72 hours, quoted Sofia City Prosecutor Iliana Kirilova

Kirilova said “After the troublemaker’s detention, the flight proceeded to its destination.”

The Indian passenger has been charged with endangering the safety of an airborne aircraft, said Ivailo Angelov of the National Investigation Service.

If found guilty and convicted, the passenger faces 5 to 10 years’ imprisonment said the report.

The passenger has been provided with a defense lawyer appointed by the court along with services of an interpreter, adding that the Embassy of India in Bulgaria has been informed, said the report.

As per the report, the Indian traveller, whose motives are still being clarified, went on the rampage right from the commencing of the flight however did not resist arrest at Sofia Airport.

“Air France flight overflying Bulgaria en route from Ghana via Paris to New Delhi had to make an emergency landing at Sofia Airport around 5 PM (local time) on Friday because of a rowdy passenger on board” said the report.

Chief of the Border Police Department at Sofia Airport, Commissioner Teodor Cheshmedjiev said that the request for the emergency landing was received at 4:10 PM on Friday.
