Kappil Beach – a picturesque tourist spot near Varkala

Kappil BridgeKappil Beach is a picturesque tourism spot near Varkala in Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala.  Located just 7 km away from Varkala, Kappil is a peaceful area with ample chances to simply relax and savour the beauty of nature, where the backwaters embrace the Arabian Sea.

The beach is very serene and without much crowd as in the case of other beaches of Kerala. Riding on the beach road is a delightful experience, with beautiful backwaters on one side and blue sea on the other. The beach is a must watch place for those who visit Varkala.

Technically the road is now separating the sea and lake. The west is the Arabian Sea and the east is Edava Lake, which takes on a greenish tinge at times.

The beach is not yet commercialized much and hence you will not find any  restaurants or coffee shops nearby. The area will be usually quite crowded in Sunday evenings. The best time to visit Kappil beach is September to May.

Boat club

It is an excellent option for the families to spend some time in the evening. Though Kappil beach is not counted with the famous beaches of Thiruvananthapuram like Kovalam and Varkala; one who visit the place will definitely come back for the second time to enjoy the backwaters and sea.

Recently the beach has got a face-lift with the new projects coming in shape. Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran has inaugurated the Kappil Beach beautification project, which is aimed to promote water sport activities in the area. Now tourist can enjoy boating and other water related entertainments at the beach.

Kappil beach is one of the preferred locations for photographic enthusiasts and honeymooners. Sunsets are exceptionally beautiful in Kappil.  Photographers will not get disappointed at this destination.

Nearby attractions:

Obviously, Varkala beach is the main attraction nearby. Janardhanaswamy temple and Sivagiri mutt are the other tourist spots, most of the tourists might have visited during their trip to Kerala. Anchuthengu fort is another place to visit near Kappil, which is just few kilometers away from Varkala.

How to reach:

The beach is just around 100 meters away from Kappil Railway station. However, all the trains will not stop at Kappil. Other nearby railway station is Varkala. It is seven kilometers from the Varkala Railway station to reach Kappil

Nearby airport is Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. It is around one and a half hour ride on a car from the airport. Those who wish to use public transport can go to the city center at Thampanoor. From Thampanoor one can ride on a train or bus to reach Kappil.
