Uber launches water taxi services in Mumbai

Uber app has introduced UberBoat in Mumbai. Through the Uber app, riders/passengers can book their speedboats from the Gateway of India to Elephanta Islands and further to Mandwa Jetty and vice versa.

Sanjay Bhatia, Chairman, of the Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) has launched the Uber Water Taxi App in collaboration with Maharashtra Maritime Board and UBER.

MbPT is foreseeing the Mumbai city’s Eastern Water Front as Sea Transport and Tourism Hub. In this direction, MbPT has completed projects like Domestic Cruise Terminal, Mumbai-Goa Cruises Services, Floating Restaurants in Mumbai Harbour and Ro-Pax Terminal so far.

Launch of Uber water taxi service is expected to give a fillip to port’s vision of reimaging Mumbai’s Eastern Water Front and gain vast potential of city’s waterways transport system for the benefit of Mumbaikars.

Uber will offer speedboats for a one-way journey at a price of Rs 5,700 for six to eight seater boats and Rs 9,500 for 10 or more seat boats.
