Eight year old Indian mountaineer climbs Mt Kosciuszko

After conquering Kilimanjaro, 8-year-old Hyderabad boy climbs Australia’s highest mountain, Mount Kosciuszko along with five other members, including his mother and sister. Samanyu Pothuraju has so far climbed 4 mountains, and is now gearing up up to climb Mount Fuji in Japan.

The team donned Telangana handlooms while climbing Kosciuszko with an aim to promote handloom weavers in the state. The team to scale the 7,310 feet peak, by Raji Tammineni of Boots and Cramptons, included four women and the 8-yr-old Pothuraju.

Earlier in 2017, Pothuraju claimed the world record after climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in 2,281 days, beating USA’s Montanna Kenney who accomplished the task in 2,284 days. “I want to be a pilot in future,” Pothuraju said.

“My mother Lavanya and coach Thammineni Bharath are my biggest inspirations,” he said. He was accompanied by his mother and coach when he had climbed Kilimanjaro along with a local doctor, fellow mountaineer Shangabandi Srujana and another woman. They started the journey on March 29 and it took them approximately five days to reach a height of 5,895 meters above the sea level on April 2. “It was a rainy day and the road was full of stones. I was afraid and to add on the worries, I had pain on my legs. But I took rest in between and reached the peak. I like snow a lot and that is the reason I climbed to Mt Kilimanjaro,” Pothuraju shared his experience climbing the Kilimanjaro.
