Unused vacation time is a recurring issue nationwide and has been highlighted in the US Travel Association’s Project: Time Off initiative and annual State of American Vacation report. The 2018 report revealed the beginnings of change may be at hand, but more than half of Americans are still leaving vacation time on the table. Furthermore, less than half of vacation time taken is being used for travel – and those who are not traveling during their time off report lower overall rates of happiness. To combat this, the US Travel Association established National Plan for Vacation Day, which is dedicated to encouraging Americans to plan their vacation days for the rest of the year at the start of the year. The holiday will be celebrated on January 29, 2019.
