Focus on responsible tourism in north Malabar

“It is time to focus on responsible tourism development in north Malabar” said V. Thulasidas, Managing Director, Kannur International Airport Ltd. (KIAL).

“Tourism potential of the region still remains untapped” he added.  Thulasidas was speaking on inauguration function of the three-day international conference on ‘Augmenting tourism infrastructure, assurance of quality standards in tourism services and opportunities in the context of sustainable tourism in India’.

The event was organised by the Department of Economics of the Central University of Kerala at Neeleswaram in Kasaragod on Tuesday.  Thulasidas said money spent on tourism development would generate much more income than that spent in other sectors.

Kannur Airport

Thulasidas said the Kannur international airport would widen the horizon of tourism opportunities of north Malabar. He was citing the importance of infrastructure development, including air transport, for the development of the tourism sector in the country.

Delivering the presidential address, G Gopakumar , Central University of Kerala Vice Chancellor, said India was blessed with diverse culture and scenic beauty, which gave enormous tourism potential, but most of areas remain unexplored.

Thulasidas released a conference compendium, comprising 70 abstracts of papers being presented at the conference.
