Odisha to take a pledge for plastic free state on World Tourism Day

The Tourism department of Odisha is undertaking to take a pledge to make a Odisha plastic free on the World Tourism Day, which is falling on 27th September 2018.  It was decided on in a review meeting to plan various activities to celebrate the forthcoming World Tourism Day.

27th September of each year is celebrated all over the world as World Tourism Day as per the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) directive. The theme of this year’s Tourism Day  is ‘Tourism and Digital Transformation’.

A Tourism Walk will be organized, which will start from Kalinga Stadium and will conclude at Utkal Mandap. Cultural performances will be performed during the walk on different locations.

Traditional welcome will be arranged for the guests at Biju Patnaik International Airport and Railway station at Bhubaneswar and Puri. Odisha Food Festival is also being organised at IDCO Exhibition Ground from 27th September till 8th October.

The authorities are trying to ensure participation of local communities for all the programmes. For that purpose, a tourism and cleanliness drive is being undertaken by the Tourist Officers in their respective districts. Cultural functions are also arranged by the Department’s Cultural Association will organize cultural programmes in the evening on the theme of World Tourism Day.
