In order to overcome the increasing competition from the private sector, KTDC has decided to have a face-lift. Last year the profit of KTDC disclosed a decrease than the previous year. It has reduced from 5.82 to 3.52 crores. Closing of 29 out of 40 beer parlours, establishment of GST and maintenance works in some of the KTDC owned buildings were the reasons for the decline in the profit, as explained by the authorities.

KTDC will start new resorts in Muzhappilangad, Kannur and in Calicut Beach. Property has already been acquired for the purpose. “The foundation stone for the 40 crore worth project will be laid in the Malayalam month ‘Chingam,” stated the tourism minister Kadakampalli Surendran in the Legislative Assembly. A hotel complex will be built in Calicut for a total cost of Rs 55 crores. A budget hotel with 100 bedrooms will be constructed at the Tea County premises in Munnar.

Procedures are at the final stage for Trivandrum Muscot Hotel to get five star status.  Renovation works worth 1.5 crores will be carried out. A convention centre will also be made in the premises. In Bakel Beach Camp at Kasargode, 10 cottages and a swimming pool will be built with an expense of Rs 3 crores.

Construction works related to cottages, lobby, reception, swimming pool etc. are in progress in Kumarakam Water Scape with an estimated cost of 12.69 crores. Rooms and the swimming pool will be revamped with a total cost of Rs 2.5 crores.

Chaithram at Thampanur will get its rooms renovated with Rs 4.2 crores. Works to refurbish the lobby, restaurant and conference hall are in progress.

Construction works worth Rs 3.2 to build 15 cottages are going on in Ponmudi Golden Peak Resort. Works related to road and landscapes are also rolling.

“Uniforms of the employees in KTDC will be improved during this year,” added the minister.

Up to 31st March 2018, KTDC has to get Rs 232 Lakhs from the State Government. Receivables from the travel agents amount to Rs 153 Lakhs and Rs 85 Lakhs from others.
