Covering about 71 per cent of the planet’s surface, ocean plays a pivotal role in sustaining life as we know it today. Human interventions are ruining this fragile marine ecosystem. It is, therefore important that we create an awareness about the importance of the oceans. The United Nations declared 1998 as the International Year of the Ocean to promote public awareness and understanding of the oceans. On 8th June each year, we celebrate the World Ocean Day (WOD) and the theme of WOD this year is “Preventing plastic pollution and encouraging solutions for a healthy ocean,” said Raja Gopaal Iyer, CEO, Uday Samudra Hotels and Resorts.
