Airbnb introduces global ‘Office of healthy tourism’

American based online tourism and hospitality chain Airbnb has announced the launch “Office of Healthy Tourism”, an initiative that drives local, sustainable and authentic tourism in cities across the world.

A new Tourism Advisory Board is on the agenda, in which travel industry leaders from around the world are welcomed. Expansion of efforts to empower poor communities, supporting eco-friendly travel habits are the prime objectives of the new project.

“With travel and tourism growing faster than most of the rest of economy, it is critical that as many people as possible are benefiting.  To democratize the benefits of travel, Airbnb offers a healthy alternative to the mass travel that has plagued cities for decades,” said Chris Lehane, Airbnb’s Global Head of Policy and Communications.

Airbnb, also highlighted that the company would sign a Memorandum of Understanding with North Eastern Council (NEC), the North East Tourism Development Council (NETDC) and two livelihood initiatives namely North East Rural Livelihood Project (NERLP) and North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Society (NERCRMS), that enhances flourishing of tourism to northeast, as well as, encourages responsible tourism for the natives.
