Kenya launches online workshops to market tourism

Kenya, the paradise of wildlife-safari, located on the eastern coast of the African continent, has launched a national level programme, to equip indigenous tourism product managers and sales representatives to sell travel skills online.

The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) has associated with  Google, mobile operator Safaricom, marketing society of Kenya, Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), Tourism Finance Corporation and KTB’s online consultant for the launch of the programme.

“KTB will work with the identified partners to engage players in the tourism and travel sector and show them how to utilize the internet to their advantage, said Betty Radier, KTB Managing Director.

Betty also stated that the main objective of the programme would encourage domestic holiday programme, and thereby flourishing more domestic commuters. Additionally, the tourism board also visualize to bring new product development with the available resources like adventure and safari.

According to Kenya Tourism Board, a total of 4.05 million bed nights were occupied by Kenyans in 2017 compared to 3.5 million in 2016, marking a 15.9 per cent steady growth.

“A big per cent of Kenyan’s access internet through their mobile phones, that provides a great opportunity for the trade, to utilize these platforms to engage Kenyans with travel-related content and experiences,” added Betty Radier.
